Best area to stay in Tampa/ St Pete/ Clearwater

Can someone please recommend a good place to stay in the Tampa/ St Pete/ Clearwater area?  We are looking for a place that is safe and on or within walking distance from a beach and many activities like shopping and restaurants.  I'm going to try to book on Priceline or Hotwire so I need to know more about the areas, than the specific hotels.  Thanks!

  • I have Pricelined on St Pete Beach more than once and gotten very nice resorts...also Madeira Beach and Indian Rocks beach are very nice. Alot of hotels at Madeira Beach are within walking distance to John's Pass which has alot of restaurants/shops/bars.

I think? you can specify if you want on the beach or not? And all those areas are around tons of restaurants and are very vacationer friendly. I am sure Clearwater Beach would be similar too...I just have not stayed there on vacation.

  • I agree with the PP and would like to add Clearwater to that list.

In addition - there is a shuttle that runs up and down Gulf Blvd from Clearwater to St. Pete Beach.  I believe it's only about a $1 to ride and will take you up and down the entire Pinellas beach area.
