FU to SD doctor's appointment

Well, we just got back from the doctor's appointment. SD had to endure the stirrups @ the Urologist & it was determined that the dampness was a yeast infection. Ugh! She was very brave but none of this would have been necessary if her Mom had not told the peditriacian (sp?) that SD was peeing herself. SD said that she was never aware of peeing herself just that she would go tothe bathroom & notice that her panties were damp. While we were in the doctor's office EX told me that her mom (SD grandmother) was the one that originally noticed it back in the fall - yes as in AUTUMN. Poor SD has had a yeast infection for about 4  or 5 months!! If EX had just said that SD's panties were damp & she noticed a discharge instead of immediately assuming that SD was incontinent then none of this would have been necessary. The pediatrician would have been able to handle it. SD was very brave & handled it as well as could be expected. My nerves are shot. I'm going home to have a glass of wine...... Drinks

  • Wow, all that for a little yeast infection! Your poor SD. At least it's something easily treatable and I can't believe it didn't bother her at all.

And I definitely think you deserve that glass of wine after all that madness!

  • At least they were able to identify the problem but sucks that she had to go through it!  How was the ex at the doctor's?  A completely different person?

  • 4 or 5 months? Poor baby - but at least she's getting the care that she needs for it. I can't imagine how uncomfortable that must have been for her. Those things are not fun.

But yes, glad this is over, and hopefully you'll have some smooth sailing for a little while, at least :-)

  • Glad to hear the Dr appt went well.  Poor thing - I can't believe she had an infection that whole time and wasn't complaining about it?  At least now the problem can be resolved easily.  I think she's very brave and I'm proud of her!   And I'm so happy for YOU that this part is over with and you can worry a little less.  I hope things are smooth from here on in...

    Bottoms up girlfriend!!!!!!

Ex was her usual crazy self. She called the doctor out of the exam room after he said that he would have to examine SD. Ex had told SD this past week that he would not examine her and if he wanted to that she (EX) wouldn't let him. So, EX wanted me to go out with them for the conversation. I hated to leave SD alone in the exam room b/c she was nervous & a bit teary-eyed but in the end I decided to go with EX b/c I was afraid of what she might say to the doctor. The doctor asked EX why she didn't want him to examine SD and Ex replied "b/c she's 10". He basically told her that she needs to let him do his job so he can determine what the problem is and that if he doesn't & it's something more serious that it will be worse on SD (he would possibly have to do a cathater (sp?) and all that if the condition got worse ). He went on to tell EX that if she wanted to take Sarah to another doctor that she could. Basically he was telling her to quit wasting his time & let him do his job so SD could get well & the condition could be resolved.

As soon as he looked at SD he said "Oh, she has a yeast infection.". No mention of any incontenence, UTIs, bladder issues, etc was mentioned after that. He said that he thought that she was fine outherwise but he want to get an ultra sound of her kidneys just in case but he felt that everything would be fine. He recommended baths in Epson Salts to relive some of the discomfort & to apply Monistat cream to the outer area of the vigina & inner labia with a Q-tip. She goes back in 2 weeks for a follow-up.

SD asked me to go with her to the follow-up & to the Ultra Sound tomorrow b/c in her words "you know what's going on." I'm arranging things at work right now so I can be there for her.

  • Well, I am SO glad that it is something completely treatable. I just feel so bad for the SD for everything she has gone through for this.

I'm sure the doctor gave you some information, but my SIL has had YI since she was very young, too, and she says doing these things really help. Some obviously won't apply to her at all yet. But, I did notice one said about taking off wet swimsuits right away. Maybe since it started in Autumn, she was swimming this summer and would leave her suit on for too long?

  • Well.... I'm glad it's nothing serious though that's horrible that she's been uncomfortable (presumably) since autumn. Your SD is a freakin champ, though!

Thanks for the link! The yeast infection probably came about this fall b/c SD took antibiotics for an upper repitory infection. Now we know when she takes an antibiotic that she & I need to watch out for signs of a YI. I'm just so glad that it's something that can easily be treated & will go away soon. Smile
