Adpiapey

Can anyone recommend doctor in the Bham area? We found a pediatrician for C, DH has an internist, and I found a gyno, but the doctor that was recommended by her just quit her practice to take care of her mother. I don't really have a pref of male/female.

Is there a particular hospital affiliation that you prefer?

I didn't even think about that, I think I would prefer an affiliation with St. Vincent's and/or UAB.

I go to Dr Laura Horne at St Vincent's East.  She's wonderful, but the only downfall is she's the only one in her practice so she stays booked all the time.  You're lucky if you get an appointment scheduled this time next year.  But other than that she's a great doctor, and will sit down and talk to you about your problems.

I'm not in Bham, but I can second Dr. Horne.  She is my mom's dr, and performed her hysterectomy a few years ago.  My mom liked her because she tries to use many different approaches before choosing surgery or medication for someone.

I use Dr. Michael Straughn, he doesn't deliver anymore but his DIL does and she is great also.  It is a really good group and he is always in the top Dr. in AL list.  However, he is at Brookwood.

I had to have surgery in Jan. and he has been great. hth

I go to Dr. Fowlkes at St. Vincents.  He's wonderful and he is in w/a lot of other dr's too.  He doesn't deliver anymore, yet I'm sure someone up there in his office does.

As for internists, I use Dr. S. Jason Smith and really like him.  He is at St.V in a group with several other docs (including a couple of females).  I use Dr. Cynthia Jones at St.V for gyno - she is in the Henderson Walton group and she is very easy to talk to and fairly easy to get in to see.  The docs at UAB are usually hard to get into see and a lot of times you will see a nurse practitioner instead of the actual doctor.

I also want to add that Dr. Horne doesn't deliver either.  But there is another practice at STV East full dr's that still deliver.  My SIL goes to them and she loves them.

I go to Dr. Heidi Straughn and I just adore her and her office!  She's at Brookwood though.

That's my group too!  I use Dr. Michael Straughn though but since he doesn't deliver if i ever get pg then i will probably go to Heidi so it makes me happy that you like her too.  I LOVE Jill our Dr. Michael's nurse she is great!

I use Dan Hudson with Henderson & Walton at St. Vincents Birmingham.  (You have to specify Dan, because there are 3 Hudsons).  He is wonderful, and still delivers.  There are 5 other doctors in his group and I love all of them so far.  I know many people who use this group and everyone loves them.
