We've been invited to a potluck this weekend at a neighbor's house. We don't know most people in our neighborhood who will be there so I am having a hard time figuring out what to bring (since I don't really know my audience)
My first thought was to bring cream puffs. I make them from scratch and fill half with chocolate mouse and half with whipped cream. But I feel a little weird not bringing a savory dinner item.
Any one have a tried and true potluck dish they would care to share with me?
Re: Potluck suggestions?
I'd say go with the cream puffs, they sound amazing and it shows that you put time and effort into making something.

Gah! Now I want to make those chips this afternoon just to eat on their own!
The cream puffs sound good!
If it were me, I'd probably email the host and say something like, "I'm thinking about bringing a dessert item like cream puffs to the potluck. Would that be okay, or would you prefer I bring something else if you're already expecting enough desserts?"
I made the cream puffs and glad that I did! They went over really well and I got a lot of compliments on them.
There were 3 thick heavy soups - so good, but very filling. Artichoke dip, olive tapenade (Heaven!) 3 cheese garlic bread, etc. The cream puffs were a good fit!
