Finished Orange is the New Black last night. I enjoyed reading it, and found it really interesting.I wish she had spoken more about how life was after prison, even just a little bit about adjusting back. I saw that she works with non-profits, but I was hoping she'd try to get into working with ex-cons to rehabilitate them into post-prison life since that seemed to be a huge concern of hers for her fellow jailmates who left before or after her.

While she painted a grim picture of Danbury while there, the other 2 prisons at the end sounded like a nightmare. I was starting to think Danbury didn't sound all that bad towards the end... but then you think about how the guards treated them and it seems like she especially had it easy since there was so much outside support.

Anyway, thanks for the rec. I had it on my list from Jen Lancaster's blog post rec, but had forgotten about it!

Now... on to HP #2!

  • I'm glad you enjoyed it!  I really did too.

I had the same thought too about wishing she had continued more into life after prison.  Although I recognize that that wasn't the focus of the book so much as being in prison.

I kept thinking about how "easy" it was for her just because of the outside support and (I'm having a hard time remembering because it was so long ago that I read it) wasn't she treated well or better by the guards because they recognized she wasn't the typical convict?

I can't even remember the two prisons at the end!
