Re: crafty ladies

  • I don't think it would be really hard at all.  The scalloped edges is a type of scissors - those are maybe $5 I'm thinking or $10 max I'm guessing.  You should be able to get nice cardstock like this either at like AC Moore/Michaels (think scrapbooking maybe) or possibly Staples/Office Max?

In my mind, the hardest part would probably be cutting out the letters, but if you weren't stuck on that font, it might be easier.

My thought is it would probably take a little time if anything, but should be fine all in all.

  • you could get the scalloped paper in different sizes at paper source (i know i wouldn't have the patience to buy plain & cut it myself) and you could get the letters at michael's.

this is a different banner but the tutorial might be helpful:

if it is going to be more of a hassle than fun for you, then it might be worth spending the money. could you get a generic one that you use for both girls to get more mileage from it?

  • Very cute but go generic mama! You do not need another 'stress' in your life! They have SS at I-Party...

But, if this is something you wanted to do, search Etsy, I bet they have a lot of great options.

  • I am looking for the exact same thing right now! We were at Michael's looking at material today!

I am not a person who does a lot of crafts so the special scissors/Martha templates would not be a wise investment for me. It looks like it would cost more to buy all the materials to than to buy one ready made through Etsy... so I think that is what I'm going to do.

I made this one for M's birthday and it wasn't hard at all.  I bought a book of card stock in the scrapbook section of JoAnns, but them into the triangles, printed out the letters, glued them on and stapled to some twine.  I know etsy has a ton if you're not up to making it though!

  • how funny I was just looking at these on etsy but super mario brothers for Matthew...I don't have time to make one and I figure the cardstock will probably cost me the same if not more...I do own all those scissors though..
  • If you know someone with a Cricut you would just need the paper.  It will cut it all out for you, and all you need to do is glue.
  • that is adorable!  I don't think it will be that hard to make but I don't think you need that aggravation.
  • I think if you're going to keep making them, than it's a good investment for the materials and you'll end up spending less. But if you're only ever going to end up making it once, buy one instead. On etsy. Seriously.
  • this one is from etsy. i need to step away from that site. its expensive for a stupid banner. i dont know what i am going to do yet. by the time i have time to do anything like this, its after 730pm and i am too tired to do anything , really anything at all. i would however, like to take a fun shopping trip to michales!

  • That is really cute - I saw some on etsy as well for the owl theme I did for DD... but, seriously, aren't they expensive to buy???  I just couldn't justify it, so I just bought the generic "Happy 1st Birthday" one at iParty for like $4, and it was fine.  It really doesn't look that hard to make (and I am not that crafty), and you could even skip the scalloped edges and do a straight cut square and they would still look amazing!  Michael's, AC Moore, Joann Fabric would all have a ton of scrapbooking paper to choose from if you want to DIY.  Good luck - and post pics when you're done!
  • this is a crciut

with the girls it may be something fun to actually have on hand!

  • I think you coud def do it, esp if it is $$ to buy.  The scissors are only a few dollars when bought as singles, but you could use a coupon and get a package of them.  They are great to have around for other things in the future.  I use tehm to make gift tags out of extra cardstock and when DD makes cards for father's day or other occasions- you will find you will use them a lot if you have them.  Also, you can get a stack of girly paper/cardstock either with a coupon or prob on sale.  You could either buy the letters or a stencil with the letters and then the girls can use it later too- DD loves to trace letters.  :)  i assume there has to be SS stickers too.  I never thought of making a banner for DD's b-day- I will have to keep in mind for her b-day.  I am lucky b-c we have a di-cut at school, but I have no idea what color i would need...maybe I'll have to do a couple colors that would go with almost anything.
  • We're doing the same theme for Indy!!! I think I am just going to buy the pre-made ones from either Birthday express or one of the other online sites or I party...I may check out etsy but will compare the prices.

    Good luck...
