Rehearsal dinner question?
Our son is being married in May. It is a destination wedding and we are hosting the rehearsal dinner at a nice/casual restaurant in Charleston, SC. Should I do a favor? I was thinking a decorated sugar cookie for each guest to take home or a single lottery ticket for each person. What are your opinions?

did you mean to say favors are not needed? just checking
But anyway, I agree that favors aren't really necessary at a rehearsal. Because you mentioned it was a destination wedding, are you sort of turning it into a party for people who might not go? Or is it still only wedding party and close family? Not sure if that would change my answer, but I could see why you would think of favors.

The girls on here will tell you I'm strongly anti-favor. I don't know when/why they migrated from children's bday parties, but I'm not a fan. Any time you entertain, you're cleaning your house from top to bottom, spending hundreds on groceries, hundreds on alcohol, additional money on flowers, possible additional money on rentals and hired help... I'm sorry, why do they need a present when they get a beautiful dinner that all they had to do was show up? My open home, my dinner, my bar, my time IS my gift to them.
So, with that soapbox standing over with, my answer is the same for you hosting at a restaurant. Even at a casual place, you're still spending at least $20/pp. Give them a lovely dinner and your charming company and that's all you need.
PS - I'm sure the wedding will be gorgeous. Charleston, swoon!
PPS - The one type of favor I do heartily approve of is welcome bags at the hotel desk for out of town guests. You can often get pens and pads and brochures at the town's visitor center for free (just call and ask, I'm sure Charleston has very nice ones) and then throw in a couple local specialties and you're all set. My guests were tickled!

HA! Yes, that is what I meant to say. NOT NEEDED! Sorry

Tarheels made a great suggestion with the welcome bags!
If you just want a little something - I would suggest mints. I wanted to do this for my RD, but then forgot to. If figure that everyone would want a little something to help with fresh breath the next day. Think a roll of mint lifesavers or a pack of tic tacs. You can tie a tiny ribbon around it to make it "festive"
Hope this helps.
