Oscars?

Does anyone here watch them?  By yourself or do you have/go to a party?

Do you have any predictions?

What do you eat while watching them?

Re: Oscars?

  • Yes I will watch them - yay Ann Hathaway!!  My friend will watch with me, but no official party.

I predict that The Social Network will take home the usual that it's been winning, unfortunately.  I really want Inception to get some recognition!

What do I eat?  Umm...nothing in particular?  Haha, is this like the Superbowl for women? What do you all eat?

  • I will watch them, mostly because like Archel, I am an Ann Hathaway fan.

No real predictions, I just want to see what the Academy thinks is good and worthy of awarding.

I don't really watch it with others, but I guess this year hubs will watch a bit of it with me? Maybe we will have snacks? I predict we will continue to eat the leftover candy from our candy buffet at the wedding. Hahah!

ETA : @Bay - I am totally jealous that you know how to knit! I want to learn, did you teach yourself or did someone show you how to knit?

  • DH really likes the Oscars, so we will probably watch.  We've had people over in the past, but not this year.

I don't really see a lot of movies (hence not very interested), but I'll have to second Archel on the Social Network since it seems to get a lot of awards.  BTW, is it actually good?  It seems kind of boring.  Maybe because we live in Silicon Valley a film about a website seems a little bit passe.

If people are coming over I'd make sure to have drinks and desserts.  I also usually make a flavored olive oil dip if we have guests.  But like Archel said, do people eat specific things for the Oscars?

  • Raangoli -- someone taught me how!  But it's wicked easy once you get the hang of it.  I wish you lived nearby so I could show you!

That's so sweet of you! I have a friend who was learning years ago, not sure if she ever kept up with it. She's pretty crafty, I should ask her.

Any good beginner websites you'd recommend? Sorry to jack your thread :)

  • Honestly?  Youtube.  I'm serious.  There's really nothing like actually watching what you're supposed to be doing, so if you don't know anyone who can teach you to knit, I recommend going on Youtube and typing in "how to make a knit stitch", "how to make a purl stitch", etc.

My mother in law gave me the Everything Knitting Book, which I would also recommend.  The patterns are kind of boring, but they have great visuals for learning how to knit, which is how I learned how to purl.

Also, start on worsted-weight yarn and medium sized (not too big or small) needles.  Pick up a pair of size 8 needles and some Red Heart yarn at Wal-Mart (seriously the best prices for beginning knitters), and you'll have a much easier time than if you pick up chunky yarn or tiny needles.  Good luck!

  • Thanks! I didn't even think of youtube, but you're right, it makes a lot of sense to be able to watch someone do it and then follow along.

I would never think Walmart for the yarn, etc, but that makes sense, too!

It'll probably take me a while to get into it, but I'll let you know how it goes :)

    Thanks again! <3
