XP: Do you have window/solar film for your house?

We bought a house last fall and have come to realize that the huge picture windows in the living room are quite a nuisance.  There are also big triangle windows above the picture windows, if that makes sense.

Not only is it ALWAYS bright in the living room (there are white honeycomb blinds currently on the windows... they don't block out anything really), it gets hot and summer is on the way.  As you know, in Arizona and there is no escaping the sun!

We are looking at putting solar film on the windows. A coworker of mine who was an interior designer in her past recommended that we also look into a solar fabric to go on the outside particularly for the triangle windows up top.We want to replace the honeycomb blinds with wooden blinds.

This is all so new to me, I'm wondering if anyone else has done this before. We just want to do the most cost effective thing and I feel so clueless.  tia.

  • We have solar film on all of our west facing windows! There are many different kids, and you have to make sure you pick the right ones, but they are great! You really cant tell a difference, and they block out 60% of the rays! We used Arizona Window I believe.

  • Absolutely!  We have the film/tint.  It's not nearly as bright and our a/c bill has gone down since we've done it (we did it two summers ago in this house).  My FI does this for a living so we got a great deal (free!) lol.
