Will I or Won't I

...be collecting unemployment in March?  When you think angry thoughts about the government, please remember that there is a difference between government employees and politicians.  Government employees hate politicians too!  Stick out tongue

Yes ( I really wish we had a 'like' button on here)

I hope that everything works out in the end. But I feel for you and all the other government employees who are in limbo.

    Thank you very much.

The limbo is the part that sucks. At least if it was a planned furlough I could use that time to take a vacation or something.  Paradise

  • And will my H have a paycheck?!

Do you mean, will his payroll office be working?  From what I had read, I thought that BP agents would be deemed "essential" and continue to work through a furlough.

I told DS's daycare today that if we are furloughed but they're open I'm going to drop him off and go on a date with my husband.  I'm not paying $350/week for nothing.  Wink

    Yeah, his payroll office.

Nothing like working for no paycheck!

I've been wondering whether we'll get paid on time for next week too since the pay period will end after March 4th.  DH and I are not going to go broke if we don't get paid on time, but this clusterfluck is still pretty frustrating.  They've had six months to pass a budget for FY 2011.  The president has already sent them his proposal for FY 2012 and yet we still don't have a budget for 2011.

It is frustrating.  We will be ok, but still it effing sucks to work and not get paid for it.  Well......he will get paid for it but you KWIM.  Guess we will be having to dip into our savings account.  What BS.

Yeah, this isn't exactly great timing for us either.  I have to keep working up until we leave for KSA because our rent is so expensive.  Had we lived more than 50 miles from DC, State would be paying 100% of our housing and giving us per diem to live on.  Because we are local we kinda get screwed (relative to everyone else in his training class) and since DH is making half what he did before taking this job, we can't pay our bills on his salary alone.

So now the prospect of not getting to work while still having to pay over $1700/month for childcare (because you can't just pull your kid out and then put them back in a few weeks later) pretty much sucks.  We can claim UE if a furlough lasts longer than 10 days, but even after those 10 days, the maximum weekly benefit is $350- basically only enough to make up for all of the daycare costs I'm paying to hold DS's spot until Congress gets its sh!t together.

We aren't broke, but since our household income will be cut in half very soon, we should really be adding to savings right now, not taking from it.

To things even more awesome, Representative Tom Reed is putting forth a bill that would cut my husband's pay by 16%.  Pay may be frozen for all other Feds, but no one but foreign service personnel are facing such a paycut.

That sucks :(  I would freak the eff out if my H's pay was cut by 16%!  I swear, I no longer affiliate with either party.  They're all a bunch of d-bags, who don't care about much.  Especially not the people.

We will be ok, but until we know when the money will start coming in again we have cut back to just the essentials.  Which sucks because I need to buy airfare for my trip to CA and FL coming up.

People in our town are kind of freaking out because the two biggest employers here are the Navy and the Border Patrol.

Yeah, I've never been party affiliated and don't think I ever will.  It just feels like the rift between the two sides is growing deeper and then there are all of us stuck in the middle with no one to represent our interests.  Very frustrating.

Hopefully many of the people in your area will be deemed "essential" since they are largely military and BP.  I don't wish upon anyone being out of a job over crap like this.

  • We can have a countdown together! I'm in the same boat...We have enough in savings, but it is really frustrating not knowing what will happen.

Plus, H will be working in California around that time so if I wish I knew in advance if we would have multiple days off so I can visit him!
