Cucumbers from seed

Last week I started a few different veggies/herbs from seed, but when I was reading the cucumber packet, the instructions said to "plant in ground". The other packs all said you could start them inside.

Can I start the cucumbers, or should I just plant them outside after our last frost?

I'm in zone 6b if that's helpful.

Re: Cucumbers from seed

  • cucumbers germinate ridiculously fast compared to other seeds. You can start them inside, but just do it 2-3 wks before planting outside (example, I'm going to start mine around 4/24 for planting mid-Mayish)

Oh. I guess that makes sense why it says to wait then. I'll make those one of the last things I start inside then. Thanks!

  • I put mine directly in the ground last year (kind of late even, because I was still building my raised bed) and they grew fine.  They actually took over parts of my garden.

  • we just did them outside and they did well.
