(XP'd from FB group)
I know there are some cyclists out there (or your DH is a cyclist). I
have a question about shoes. I need some shoes for my indoor spinning
class. I need a stiffer bottomed shoe to help with some overuse
injuries I'm dealing with that my regular athletic shoes on a spin bike
aren't helping any. So... What kind should I get? Since I'm not a real
hard-core cyclist, I don't need anything too fancy and don't want
anything too expensive.
I'm looking at a few types. Regular road bike shoes (sleek, hard-soled), a hybrid shoe (like these: http://cgi.ebay.com/37-5-LAKE-I-O-3-WOMENS-SPD-CYCLING-SHOES-6-5-BLACK-BLUE-/140503646681?pt=US_Women_s_Athletic_Footwear&hash=item20b6ab81d9)
or a mountain bike shoe. I like the idea of an indoor/outdoor shoe so
I'm not forced to take them on/off before and after class. But I'm
wondering if the last two won't be stiff enough for my injury needs.
Are they more like regular athletic shoes, just with a clip But I don't
know....
I'm also on the fence whether or not I just need the hard-soled shoes or if I want to get clips and clip in for my spin classes.
And
for the record, I am totally an online shopper and hate going to
stores, so the idea of going to a cycle shop doesn't sound too
appealing. I'd rather buy 3-4 on Zappos and return the ones I don't
like. I'm silly like that. haha. But if I really need to, I could
probably find a way to squeeze a visit to a shop.

Re: Question about cycling/spin shoes
I have road bike shoes/clipless shoes for my road bike. I got them at the bike store where I bought my road bike. They are the most expensive pair of shoes I own (but got them on a great clearance) and it makes me cry to think about it since I got PG only a few months after getting the bike, but when I did use them (even when I would fall b/c of them on a road bike) I love them - you get so much more power out of them and I'm hoping I can use them for spinning as well.
cycling shoes, at least road bike cycling shoes are very hard. Not cushy in any way and they clip into the pedals and you get a lot of power/force/energy. Because they are so hard you'll likely have to try several pairs to get the right fit and I honestly would go to a shop, because like running shoes, you want to make sure they're fitting right and if you've never used them you may not know if you're really getting the right fit. KWIM?
We bought "cafe covers" for our shoes. They're plastic covers that snap over the "brace" on the shoe for when we stop for coffee or need to walk around in them for some reason - and they're helpful.
There is a "Nor cal nest" FB group... wanna join?
http://www.facebook.com/#!/home.php?sk=group_101689099901206&ap=1
Try that...
How did I not know about this? Is everyone playing there instead of here?
Haha. It was our secret club and you weren't invited. JK!!!!!!
No, I wouldn't say they're on FB more than here. But the FB group does have everyone - bump and nest there. I sometimes use it when I want to talk to both groups at the same time. Or if it is a little more personal and I don't want it just open to the world to read my post.
And sometimes I post here or there or both for no rhyme or reason at all.
