Pittsburgh Blue? Yay or nay?

We have about $75 in Parasole gift cards to spend so I'm wondering if Pittsburgh Blue would be a good option?

We've been to Manny's, Burger Jones, and Mozza Mia. And no thanks to Good Earth.  Any other Parasole restaurants you'd recommend?

Re: Pittsburgh Blue? Yay or nay?

  • I've heard great things about Pittsburgh Blue - I've just never been. I really love Salut - so that'd be a good option. I've got to ask though - why no thanks to Good Earth? They have such awesome (casual) food - the flatbreads, fresh juice, peanut butter fro-yo, the chocolate chunk oatmeal cookies... I've never been let down, although it's more of a casual lunch place than dinner, IMO.

I have a weird bias against Good Earth that isn't really based on anything but I just can't shake it.  I just picture a giant plate of sprouts for dinner and that grosses me out.  Weird, yes, but that's me. Big Smile

Hah, looking over the list of restaurants I remembered we also have a separate $25 gift card to Cafeteria.  We have a lot of eating to do!!!  :-)

HA! I am sure you could get a giant plate of sprouts... but I've never seen anyone with that! I had dinner from the Good Earth quite a bit when I worked PT at the Galleria.. and everything is so good! You should really try it again. Do their walk-up deli for a sandwich and a cookie, it'll only set you back a few bucks on your gift card so you could still go someplace else if you hate it.

I heard a rumor that Kozy's in the Galleria is closing and is being replaced with a Pittsburgh Blue. Not sure how true the rumor is though..

I've never heard anything good about Kozy's so that doesn't surprise me.

I had lots of Good Earth smoothies when I worked at the Galleria - those were good and had no sprouts in them.  :-)  I think there are so many other restaurants I'd want to try first that I doubt we'll ever get there for dinner.

  • I have a friend who raved about her trip to Pittsburgh Blue ? she made me want to try it.  She said they have great crab, which they remove from the shell for you at the table (she got crab and steak).

I do not like Chino Latino, but I am glad I have been there at least one.  The food it a little weird for me, but it is a pretty cool environment.   I know lots of people who like it a lot?if you have a bit more exotic tastes.  However, if you don?t have to pay for it, it might be fun just to try it out if for no other reason than the ambiance.

I snub my nose at Good Earth too.  I used a parasole gift card there once and still majorly regret it.  My husband is not a picky man and even he didn?t eat his food ? I just found it all a bit too weird for me.  Granted, the reason I remember it with such disdain (instead of just avoiding it) is because we had a server that was rude ? which I do not think is a trend of their staff.

  • We went to Pittsburgh Blue the other week - it was very much like a "Manny's Lite" to me.  We had a Parasole gift card - I guess I'm glad I tried Pittsburgh Blue, but I like Manny's better.  I had a terrible time deciding where to use that gift card, I'd been holding on to it for 3 or 4 years.
  • Interesting thoughts on the Good Earth. DH worked there for over 3 years, and I work at the Galleria for just as long and we love that place.

But anyways...YES! Run with OPEN ARMS to Pittsburgh Blue! Some of the best food I have ever had. Seriously! We have eaten there several times. Get their red velvet cake if you can! To.die.for.

  • I really enjoy Pittsburgh Blue.  DH and his family (I have never been to Manny's so I can't say) say it's like a Manny's Lite--like a PP mentioned.  Still great steak and sides, but cheaper and a little more casual.  We feel comfortable there in dark jeans and a nice top.  It's not the best steak I have ever had, but it is one of the better I have had (top 5 for sure)

We are using our Parasole card at Salut this weekend.  I couldn't choose, but I loved the food at Salut last year on my b-day that we decided to go back again this year.

  • I love Pittsburgh Blue.  Great food, well cooked and good atmosphere.
  • Phooey.  Opentable says Pittsburgh Blue doesn't have anything until 8:00 on Saturday. We're old folks....we like to eat early.  Maybe next weekend!  :-)

  • I LOVE Good Earth.  The squash with wild rice/cranberries, the smoothies, the juices....even the Arnie Palmers aren't made with sugar.  My fav was the chicken quesadilla that a co-worker and I would split every Friday for lunch.  And the.best.tea.evah.

I like the Good Earth at night.  It's quiet and relaxing.  But that's just me.

Kozy's needs to close.  That place is terrible.

  • We went to Pittsburgh Blue with my grandparents for brunch. It was a little less expensive then the dinner menu and we really enjoyed it.

We're going to try it again tonight.  We tried it when they first opened and weren't impressed.  After hearing from several people how good it is we've decided to give it another shot.

Interestingly, I just made a reservation using opentable and got in at 6:30.  Sorry Kiz, I didn't read this post until after I made it...  Strange though, someone must have just cancelled or something

  • I wasn't impressed by Pittsburgh Blue for dinner but love their lunch menu. It's probably my favorite lunch spot in Maple Grove.

  • I went there awhile ago...I remember thinking the drinks were good! But as far as the food goes, I don't remember being impressed.
  • update: we went last night. If you're going to go on a weekend night, definitely make a reservation. The wait was an hour and a half for people who didn't have reservations. I had 1/2 lobster tail (8oz) which was cooked perfectly and delicious.  The whole tail would have been way too much food. DH had filet mignon which was also cooked perfectly.  We both had a caesar; I wasn't terribly impressed, but DH enjoyed his.  We also shared french fries (again, not impressed, but DH liked them) and asparagus (which was great).  I had a pomegranate martini which was awesome.  For dessert, we shared the red velvet cake, which really is as good as everyone says.

  • I like the service we always get at Pitt Blue.  The steaks are wonderful - dry aged ones seem to have great flavor and if you don't see a cut on their menu they will make one up for you.  The bread is so good and the red velvet is my favorite.  I like the green beans for a side and the wedge salad.  It's our favorite place to go.
