House Update

Soooo it's back to the hunt. :-(

I have to tell you, I feel almost stupid for writing my little cheesey letter, because our realtor called us today, and informed us that the sellers did something unethical, and began calling potential buyers after the first two offers (mine and our competition) came through.  I feel naive.

They basically created a bidding war to see how much they could get for the house and now the house is selling for $120,000 over the asking price...money grubbing a-holes.  It was a sad learning experience.  We're well shod of them, I know, I just hate the ickyness of it all, and wish I could give them their just reward somehow!  grrr.

It sucks that in this economy, they are playing games like that...especially since we could have bid even less in this market, and still been considered a strong offer.

I guess I'll have to let my fangs show, if I really want something?  What happened to this being a buyer's market??  Bleh.

Better luck next time.

Re: House Update

  • Sorry to hear that!

I kinda know how you feel.  When we were looking at homes, we realized we had to be a bit more aggressive in showing interest (bidding) if we liked something because a couple of the houses went fast. I liked the idea of the letter, but if they were shady to begin with, it wasn't going to help anyway.  You're the better person! Things happen for a reason.  Fingers crossed for you that something better comes along!

  • Bummer! ?Keep looking and I'm sure you'll find the perfect place for you guys! ?

And as for the letter, I have friends who bid on a house that was slightly out of their price range. ?They also wrote a letter about being newlyweds, and how much they would love the house, and even though there was a higher bid, the couple took their offer! ?So don't give up hope that there are caring people out there in the world. ?Even if these particular people weren't. ?

  • Aw, that really stinks!  But I'm sure there's something better out there, and easier people to deal with, too.  I have a feeling that the couple you're talking about could have been best friends with our seller... ugh... don't even get me started on him.

Just remember to stick to your guns on what you want, and don't go over what you want to pay for a house.  After all, you don't want to have a beautiful house and nothing inside of it or no life to speak of because you're putting all of your money into your mortgage.  I know it's hard, but be patient and when the house is right, it'll happen!  Good luck with the continued house hunt!

  • Good luck with the continuing house search! It sounds like this just isn't the right house for you. Better luck next time.

  • Girl, that blows.  I feel terrible for you because we are in the beginning process of saving and looking for a house, so I know that must be an awful feeling, especially when you liked the house.

I sometimes get onto the Buying A Home message boards and it does seem that people don't get that this is a buyer's market (for now) and you can't be asking for God knows how much.  DH and I have looked into renting a home with no luck.  So many people are trying to avoid selling the house at a reduced price by renting out their house for how much their mortgage is plus a little more.  On the street my parents live on, some 1BD/1BA houses are being rented at almost $1000 a month, which is triple what it should be in our area.  So they sit empty.

Anyway, I am sending you Nestie vibes that you and DH will find something beautiful and perfect!  Good luck!
