Kinda stupid question

I'm starting my first square foot veggie garden this season and I'm ready to start seeds for my cool weather crops.

Do I put mulch down after I plant the seeds, or should I wait until they sprout?

Re: Kinda stupid question

  • I would put it down after they germinate and have a few sets of true leaves (so that putting down the mulch doesn't knock them over)
  • Most of the time, it's best to start seeds in trays of sterile media until they are large enough for transferring the root plugs into the ground. By that time, the frost danger is behind you and the plants are big enough not to be destroyed by mulching.
