Myrtle Beach or Hilton Head?

We are thinking of taking a trip to either Myrtle Beach or Hilton Head sometime in May to get away for a few days. Most of our trips this summer are for weddings, so I wanted to take a little trip that's just for us. Anyone have any recommendations for Myrtle Beach or Hilton Head?? We live in Athens, GA now, so the drive isn't too bad for us. I want to stay in an ocean front room and it seems that Hilton Head is quite a bit more expensive than Myrtle Beach. Any ideas appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Myrtle Beach or Hilton Head?

  • H and I went to Hilton Head a few years ago.  Drove up there for a long weekend and had a wonderful time!  I believe we were there in October, so it was a bit chilly for beach weather, but I liked it because it was off season and not so crowded.  We used Marriott points and stayed at the Marriott for free.  It was right on the beach.  I really loved Hilton Head and would definitely go there again.  It was more of a relaxing place to me because there isn't a ton to see and do (of course I live in FL and can do the beach anytime), but I thoroughly enjoyed the little stuff we did do.

I would definitely recommend Hilton Head!  Haven't been to Myrtle Beach though, so I can't compare the two.  Myrtle Beach was a further drive, so that's why we chose HH.  Also, I think I expected Myrtle Beach to be more touristy and living in FL, I get plenty of touristy already.
