This is my first year purchasing a CSA share and I can't wait until June to start getting my goodies! In honor of that, a poll:
Do you belong to a CSA?
Does your CSA require farm work?
What the best thing you've received/hope to receive?
What have you received that has surprised you (something new or something you never thought you'd like but you did or something you are excited to try)?
What have you received/will receive that you just can't bring yourself to eat, if anything?
What's your favorite CSA inspired recipe?
Re: CSA Poll (non-clicky)
Do you belong to a CSA? Yes. One for meat and one for produce.
Does your CSA require farm work? It is optional. You can do farm work for a discount.
What the best thing you've received/hope to receive? For the meat CSA, our holiday turkey. For the produce CSA, peaches.
What have you received that has surprised you (something new or something you never thought you'd like but you did or something you are excited to try)? kohlrabi
What have you received/will receive that you just can't bring yourself to eat, if anything? None.
What's your favorite CSA inspired recipe? Creamed kohlrabi: it is just something that I normally would not eat because it has such a strong flavor. For our meat CSA this bacon wrapped pork tenderloin with Cumberland sauce was amazing. The currants are from the produce CSA.
Do you belong to a CSA? No but there are alternatives that I use. We have an elaborate farm stand that is open daily/year round. They carry meats, fruits, vegetables, milk, eggs and homemade food like jams ext. We also have a bi-weekly fruit and veggie delivery system that is mostly local/organic (suburban organics).
Does your CSA require farm work? N/A
What the best thing you've received/hope to receive? The farm stand gives away anything that is overstocked or soon to spoil so I enjoy trying new foods that way.
What have you received that has surprised you (something new or something you never thought you'd like but you did or something you are excited to try)? I've never been one to experiment with food so I guess just finding different things to try, that I have enjoyed has surprised me. I never thought I would like peppers.
What have you received/will receive that you just can't bring yourself to eat, if anything? Anything citrus. Ugh.
What's your favorite CSA inspired recipe? SALSA.Do you belong to a CSA? No. I work the Farmer's Market for an organic produce vendor instead. I'm answering the rest of the questions as if I belonged to the CSA my farm also runs.
Does your CSA require farm work? No.
What the best thing you've received/hope to receive? Oh geez, everything! I love the unusual stuff. Jerusalem artichokes, asian greens, unusual potato and tomato varieties. I miss eggplant terribly!
What have you received that has surprised you (something new or something you never thought you'd like but you did or something you are excited to try)? All the asian greens surprised me, as we never really ate them before. Choi Sum and Bok Choi are excellent in stir-fries.
What have you received/will receive that you just can't bring yourself to eat, if anything? I can't seem to like turnips, radishes, or Kohlrabi. Beets I love, especially the golden ones. Turnips are just too strong to me, they overpower the salad.
What's your favorite CSA inspired recipe? Here's all my favorite Farmer's Market recipes
