laptop or desktop??

My DH and i have the same laptop, HP Pavillion. Mine is 3.5 yrs his is 3 yrs and they both are starting to bite the dust. Mine is extremely slow, we've tried wiping the hard drive clean, deleting programs, and nothing seemed to help. His laptop over heats within 15 min and shuts off.

We want to get a new computer, but we dont know whether to get a desktop or laptop. We do photo editing, gaming, internet browsing, and school work. I think having a desktop would be better but he disagrees.

Any suggestions on what to get would be appreciated!

Re: laptop or desktop??

  • Desktops are a bit more stable and you can usually make them last a bit longer than a laptop.

Are you both getting a new computer? Maybe you could split the difference with a desktop and a netbook?

  • Unless  you need to bring it with you often then I would go for a PC.  For the same amount of money you can buy a much better PC than a Laptop. Replacing a laptop becomes inevitable after a while which is also costly.
  • In case it influences what decision you make, the problem you describe w/ your husband's laptop (overheating) might be solvable by replacing the cooling fan ($5) and/or updating the BIOS.

This is the route we went.
