If you were going to have a spa theme-
I am throwing a lingerie party for FIL's fiance. Her family is more on the conservative side, so I thought it would be nice to have every one come over and we could do at home spa treatments, like facials, foot soaks etc, and the only lingerie part would be the gifts. How would you decorate for this? I was thinking maybe doing a luau since they will be going to Hawaii for their honeymoon, but I don't know if that would be strange since we will be doing spa type things. Any ideas?

You know how when you go to the Spa everything is really clean, simple, serene.....maybe you can recreate that in your house with some simple candles, fresh flowers and a peaceful, decluttered atmosphere? Wine is always nice hahaha. Just google "Spa Parties"...
I had a Spa Ladies Night at my house last month, and as far as creating the atmosphere for it, I completely depersonalized my living room, kitchen, and bathroom, decluttered it, bought a bunch of cheap white pillar candles in different heights from Michaels (they come in really cheap party sets, they sell them at Target too), and had these set up in clusters on large chargers. On our buffet, instead of food, I had plain white hand towels rolled and fit into a cute basket, and some of the accoutrements for doing nails (cotton balls, orange sticks, a few mini-bottles of nail polish remover), and we also decided to do facials, but instead of making a huge mess mixing them, we bought the facial packs from Ulta, cucumbers, and a few different types of sugar scrubs for hands, feet, and face...along with some lotions and cremes (some we found for a dollar at Michaels in their "Fun Finds" department, along with bath petals, scrubbers, etc.). Throughout the living room I had just regular glass vases in whatever sizes I had at home, filled with fresh flowers (Albertsons sells 3 bunches for 12 dollars, and Sams Club has huge bouquets for cheap), a few vases in the Kitchen, and one in the bathroom on the kitchen sink (along with candles as well). In the kitchen there was wine, different types of teas, fruits and vegetables (Cost Plus sells these chocolate dessert cups for 1.99, I think there's 30 in a package, we filled them with berries..mmm and easy) and a few simple finger foods....
Im probably making it sound more complicated than it was, but everyone assumed I spent a ton of money, when I only spent around 30-50 bucks...Hope that helps!!!
I don't have much input on the decoration, but do you know these ladies well? Is this something they would enjoy? Facials or foot scrubs with my relatives is not something I'd be too into. I don't know how old these people are, but there is also a point where women don't want to be seen without their eyebrows on and what not.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, make sure this is something they want to do. You already know she's not very comfortable with the lingerie part, adding in something else uncomfortable would be even worse.
Which also begs the question, why have the lingerie part?
i agree. simple and serene surroundings without the fussy decorations.... thick towels and/or robes, natural things like wicker or bamboo baskets to hold magazines and nail polishes, soothing sounds or jazz music in the background...
This is what I was thinking too. If you want to say away from a conservative gal opening a a box of thongs in front if her loved ones, maybe you can suggest "honeymoon" goodies like sarong, beach cover up, hats, sun dress, cute sandals, etc.
Maybe you can stick to hands - like exfoliate, nail polish, even some reflexology.
Or you can just have people mix body scrubs and take them home - that could your activity: the mixing of oils and salts.
I like PP's suggestions of candles, nice music, some nice fragrance and dim lighting.
