Downtown St Paul - Photography Project - Help!

Hello ladies!

My 'little' sister has a school photography assignment that she asked for my help with. We've done one project already - we went downtown Minneapolis to take photos and her assignment was Leading Lines - she used the light rail tracks, power lines, the stone arch bridge, the escalator at the Guthrie.. Her current assignment has 3 parts to it - Reflections, Shadows and Repeating Shapes. Reflections - in water, in a building, in a mirror, etc. Shadows - pretty obvious. Repeating shapes - the examples he used were ducks floating on a pond, boulders sticking out of a lake, a jagged stone patio, etc.

We were thinking about going to St. Paul for this assignment - do any of you have suggestions on specific places that would work to try to accomplish this assignment? We'd like to just park the car and walk. I'm really only familiar with Rice Park in St. Paul - not sure if any other parks may have better surrounding areas to get a maximum number of shots. She needs to take 6 pictures of each part.

TIA!

  • The Como park conservatory has water and lots of stuff that repeats. Actually, I think one of the pools is called a reflecting pool.  You have to pay a couple dollars to get in but at least it would be warm.

The Minnesota History Center - shapes and reflective windows

Harriet Island has a lot of repeating shapes but  I'm not sure how much of it is covered with snow.

Why did I not think of the conservatory!? Awesome - thank you! I think she'll love that idea.

  • The cathedral and the capitol....if you can get them in the same frame you will have 2 gorgeous domes.  Also, the archways at the cathedral would be beautiful, or the pillars at the capitol.

I agree with the conservatory, that would be awesome too.

I LOVE St.Paul.....let me think a little bit more about sites....I know some will come to me. :)

Lots of love and continual explosions of babydust to my BG Besties! XOXOXOXO
