We have 2 friends from Clemson coming to stay with us briefly this week. They're major foodies so I wanted to take them somewhere good that was somewhat unique to Jacksonville (in other words, none of the chains in the town center). I don't want anywhere super expensive and I was thinking something with an interesting beer selection since I know they like to try different types of beer. I know River City has interesting beer but other than that I'm at a loss. Any suggestions?
ETA: They're broke grad students but I know they'll fight me on paying the bill so I'm thinking $15 and under per plate max.
Re: Calling all foodies!
European Street, TacoLu, Bold City (not so much food, but great beer), Intuition Ale, A1A Ale Works in St Augustine
I've never even heard of most of these. We've been back in Jax almost a year and clearly haven't explored enough.
I think we ordered takeout from Kickback's the night of our wedding when we got back to our hotel room. It's downtown right?
Kickbacks is on King street down in the Riverside area & it's amazing. We're seriously in love with this place! Both beer and food are wonderful. The food would be classifeied as "Gastro Pub" and the whole place has such a cool vibe to it. We always take out of towners here.
Caps on the Water, hands down.
They have some pricier dishes on their menu but staying around $15 per person and still having a great meal is entirely doable with their menu selection.
We take all out of town guests there. There's nothing like it anywhere else that I've been to.
Tacolu's would be fun! Cheapish, but cool atmosphere and the best tacos I've ever had.
No one has mentioned Biscottis? It would be close, but you could do $15 a plate. My salad there is $11 or $12. There's also The Brick and Blue Finn over there (I think that's what it is? Used to be Sterlings?) but I'm not sure about prices.
Also ditto whoever said Caps and Barbara Jeans.
LB, I appreciate your love affair with Biscotti's. I really do.
I just feel obligated to mention Biscottis when people ask for recs.
