Recycle?

I always put bottles and cans in the recycle bin beside the garbage chute but I'm uncertain about some other things.  )There's also a bin for magazines and newspapers).

what about:

toothpaste tubes

pharmacy bottles & caps

hair product bottles

Re: Recycle?

  • Hmm...Have you ever looked inside the bins to see what other people are leaving?  What gets taken depends on your city/county's recycling policy.  Some areas only allow for limited recycling of bottles and cans and others accept a lot of things.  (It's county by county here.)  In my county, they will accept pharmacy bottles, hair product bottles, etc. but not their lids.  They will not take toothpaste tubes b/c of the residual paste left in the tube.

  • Call your recycling company.  We found out that ours accepts way more stuff than was shown on the label on our recycling bin, and that they didn't accept some stuff I assumed they would, like plastic bags.  I know it's a bit of a PITA, but you only have to make the call once.

  • I check for the plastic recycling # on everything, and if it doesn't have one I throw it away, sadly. Most things they want rinsed out and labels/lids taken off, even shampoo bottles, etc. Why can't everything just be recyclable?!

Or their website may have a chart/guide of what is and is not accepted.
