Stac, Kathy, Mitz, Lissy other runners

I have a running question, every time I run lately my right knee, hurts SO bad that I have to stop running. I noticed this after I increased my speed, any ideas or suggestions?

Re: Stac, Kathy, Mitz, Lissy other runners

  • You might be pushing it too fast.  Mine does this sometimes too.  Are you running for endurance or time?  If you're running for endurance, I would say back off the speed and go more for mileage.  If you're running for time, you might have to slowly increase your speed.  If you try to go too fast too soon, that might be your problem.

Also, something I've noticed with my running is that when I take the time to walk really fast or very slowly jog for about 1/2 a mile before I start running, I never have pain.  I also ice right after and that seems to help.

Another option is to wear a knee brace to stabilize your knee so that it moves properly.  I need to do that because 10 years ago I completely blew my knee out and it never healed correctly.  Recently, with my increase in mileage, I have major swelling.  I think If I wore a brace, it would force a more stable run.

    Good luck!

  • Can't answer your question. Too busy rolling on the floor laughing at being grouped in with people referred to as "Runners"!

Here's a random question, and I'm not even sure what I'd do with the answer:

Do you run, landing on the balls of your feet, and then laying down the heel, or are you a heel striker?

  • You ran a 5k!! Haha, so I consider you a runner!! Lol!  I land I think on my heel, I have no idea, lol.
  • I don't have suggestions for you Puggs, but I hope it feels better.  This post also reminds me that maybe I need to do some running.  I've run once since January...go me :-(
