I give up...

My shin splints have been so incredibly bad the last two weeks, I finally just gave in and bought a pair of running socks off of Amazon. My cousin that runs swears by them. They were expensive (especially when you think they are a pair of friggin' socks), but I needed them. I even gave in and did the one-day shipping so they would be here in time for my next run! Hopefully they work the miracles I have heard they do!!!

  • Hopefully they do work!  My sister gets them real bad and the trainer at her gym said the shoes you wear makes a difference too.  Something about the cross training shoes not being the best for those with shin splits.

  • Eeek! I used to get them so bad during indoor track season in high school.

  • I have problems with my shins, too, and your shoes definitely make a difference. Cross-trainers are bad for running and running shoes are bad for training because they really are made for the specific way your feet move (running shoes are made to move forward, cross-trainers side to side/jumping).

    My shoes wear out pretty quickly because i walk/run outside a lot, so I now have a pair of cross-trainers for the gym and a pair of running shoes for walking and running with the dog. It's helped - hope your socks help too!

  • Well, I bought running shoes (RunTones from Reebok), and I really like them, I just get Runner's Knee bad too, runs in the family, so I know I'm like favoring that and putting more the the impact on the other parts of my leg then. I'm just a ball of frickin' mess! : )

  • Boo! I hate shin splints!  I get them occasionally, usually when I run on the sidewalk.  So I try to run on tracks and dirt trails only (street if necessary).  That alone usually works for me, but I hope these socks work for you!

  • keep in mind shin splints are typically related to flat feet or too high arches... i have wicked flat feet and get shin splints and plantar fasciitis regularly when i run (since high school and through college field hockey)

    instead of investing hundreds of dollars in custom inserts i bought $20 inserts off of my dr and they are awesome!  depending how much i run i replace them about 9 - 12 months and they work really really well. (i just came back from a 3 1/2 mile run and feel great!)

    Also - if you take aleeve consistently it acts as an anti-inflammatory and can also help reduce pain.
