remember the Under $1000k blog chick?

So, apparently she's got a 4th baby now, but she's divorcing her husband and she's left the "college", and is now a UU.

  • What's a UU?

I feel bad for those kids.

  • Universal Unitarian - basically, it's a religious practice that believes that there is no one right answer, and that everyone's spiritual path is different.
  • :gasp:

Unitarian Universality- they're not Christians exactly, just believe in a higher power that wants a role in our lives and they live more "faithfully" (aka services, etc.) than agnostics.

  • I feel bad for her kids too, and I'm worried about them. How is she going to support 4 kids on her own? I definitely don't see their dad helping out.

And they tend to be more open-minded than other religious sects.

  • Most of the UUs I know are former catholics that felt stifled and too restricted in how they were told to view God, but still want to believe and participate in a religious community. I'm a little surprised, though! Hopefully she's going to come to her senses and make a safer home for her children. And give them real food.
  • Maybe w/H gone she can fit 2 kids in bed with her instead of sleeping underneath the crib.

  • Great, now she's going to give UU's a bad name. H and I are going to start going to a Unitarian church here when baby's born.  I really like everything they teach and stand for.

  • My only experience with UU is a funeral service I attended last year at a UU church for a friend of my father's, and I have to say, it was by far the nicest funeral I've been to. So much nicer to be at a service that celebrated the life of the person being put to rest and not be focused nearly exclusively on the scripture and the church (I'm talking to you, Catholic Church)...but on the person, with his/her loved ones getting up to share stories and memories. That was beautiful and how I would want to go out.

    Yes

ETA:  Agreement on being celebrated in death rather than mourned, and that being how I would want to go...

  • So it's okay to put down someone's religion here?

  • Riss, I am sorry if I offended you or anyone on the board with my parenthetical address to the catholic church, which I intended to be humorous but which I can see might be seen as offensive.

If my comments were seen as disrespectful, I apologize. I was raised catholic and went to catholic school and have very strong feelings about organized religion, in general, and catholicism specifically, and while I try to not inflict my beliefs or lack thereof on others, it does seep out from time to time. The church is not for me, but I do actually respect that other people feel strongly about it and are entitled to their beliefs and don't make a habit of attacking anyone for it.

Again, I sincerely apologize if my off-hand comment offended you. That was certainly not my intent.

Who put down a religion? Are you referring to her former religion? I didn't see anyone put down either religion that the girl practiced, rather it was simply pointed out that she shifted from her former fundamentalist practice to a much more relaxed sect. It's her parenting skills that are being called into question, and rightfully so.

ETA I didn't see mcd's comment before. Makes more sense now, although I don't think she intended it to be offensive.
