Hey. I've been lurking a bit, but thought perhaps I could start posting. We're relocating to the eastside of Providence. Well, technically, my husband is already there.. my toddler daughters and I are still stuck in the midwest but will be joining him in two weeks. We're thrilled senseless to get the hell out of here.
At any rate, I'm looking for pediatricians in Providence. My youngest daughter requires a specialist (pediatric urologist) and I was wondering what hospitals in the area were ones I'd want that specialist to be affiliated with. We were spoiled by Riley Hospital in Indianapolis as it's a fantastic pediatric hospital. What's great there? And of course, any recs for a regular ped would be great.
Since this is my first post, I'll introduce myself, you know, in case someone wants to know :P I'll be 30 in April. My husband works in downtown Providence as a software developer. I'm a SAHM and student. My daughters are turning 2 (in September) and 3 (in July) this year. I fancy myself a chef and like to scrapbook as far as traditional SAHM-type hobbies. I'm also into writing, reading textbooks (yeah, seriously), good spook stories, great restaurants, losing weight/getting in shape, and finding ways to put fun back into my life (it's been sorely lacking as of late).
Thanks!

Re: New to Board (and RI) - Recs needed
Welcome, can't give you any rec's since I don't live in the area, I'm in MA. But, if you're a chef, make sure you check out my recipe site (link in sig). I run a little cooking club on the board and all the recipes shared get posted there. Feel free to share a recipe, or take part in the club (opens every Thursday). I post a cooking theme every week and then our fab RI girls post recipes related to the theme.
In fact, that reminds me, I have to post the theme!!
Welcome to the board! I don't have recs, as I'm in MA. But I want to wish you the best with your move!!
My husband would love to get more into the software side of engineering, he's been doing hardware/graphics for 12 years
My youngest sees Dr. Pamela Ellsworth at Univ. Urological Associates Inc.
2 Dudley St Ste 185
Providence, RI
We have been happy with her she has seen her since birth well, actually since my 20 week u/s.
welcome! our daughters are similar ages. my oldest turned 3 in febuary and the other one will turn 2 in may.
Welcome!
DD sees Dr. Kelvin Gillman on North Main St in Providence and we love him! 401-383-6776.
Your new pediatrician should be able to refer you to a Pediatric Urologist.
Good luck!
Hi, I have no recommendations for you but wanted to say welcome. Its funny if i ever had to move for my husbands job it would be to Indianapolis. He works for Eli Lilly
hi
I don't have any recs in the Providence area, but I do love my daughters specialists up in Worcester at UMass. Any surgeries she needs will be done either at UMass or Children's Boston.
I avoid Hasbro like the plague.
no recommendations since i live in DC but welcome! best of luck with the move & enjoy exploring RI!
I second Dr. Pamela Ellsworth. We had a good experience with her when my son was an infant.
Good luck with your move!
I'd love to meet up. To be honest, we think we'll stay in Providence (we've bounced around the past few years) and its been really hard to make friends. My older daughter, who is almost three, tells me every.single.day about how she's going to "go to the beach" and "play with the kids". The poor kid is just desperate for playmates, and honestly so am I.
That sounds desperate, doesn't it? It's like a dating ad that says "I'll date anyone! I have no standards!"

Omigosh! Themes? I'm a total dork, I know. Yes, definitely going to check that out. I eat vegan/gluten-free mostly, but the family doesn't, so I'm always looking for all kinds of new recipes.
Wow, really? I honestly don't meet many people who are in his line of work, even sort of.. which is odd because everyone fancies themselves a programmer these days. He got a job at a really neat company in Providence that does corporate weight loss software and things for health insurance systems and whatnot. Really, he's just excited because they have a ping pong table and big screen tvs.

My daughter had her first surgery at 4 months. She's 19 months now. I was wondering about whether or not I'd need to go to Boston. Not that Providence is subpar or anything, but I know one of the Children's hospitals in Boston is top ranked.
Why avoid Hasbro?
And in an effort to save this thread from being a zillion posts by replying individually, thanks for all the recs and nice to meet all of you too
Yeah, I know so many enginerds (my term of endearment) because of my husband (coworkers and friends)! With MIT, Harvard, WPI, RPI, etc. all relatively close by, there are lots of engineers around here. Not as high a population as Silicon Valley, but sizeable!
I totally hear you on the ping pong table! I almost think it's a necessity for a lot of these companies. Honestly, I have visited a few companies over the years, and all of them had either ping pong or billiards tables. Most of the guys had their own paddles or pool cues in their cubicles, too. Now, they're starting to get more into the on-site gyms, but still! Ping pong has been the way to go forever!!
