When did you introduce solids? Did you introduce rice cereal around 4 months or did you wait till 6 months for any solids?
I'm trying to educate myself as much as possible before I decide what to do but I'm strongly leaning towards waiting till 6 months to introduce any solids.
Just wanted to see what everyone else has done and your opinions. Of course it will depend on what the dr. says anyway but I don't want to feel pressured to give her rice cereal at 4 months just because all my friends seem to be going that route.
Re: Mommas - solids question
I started rice at 4 months and then solids at about 4 1/2 months. I started it because she seemed hungry and that the formula wasnt cutting it anymore. And when I talked to my doctor he said that is about the time when babies are ready for new tastes/textures/etc.
I think you just to read Lucie's cues and see what works for her/you. You shouldnt feel forced to start earlier if you don't think it would be good for her. I wouldnt wait much longer than 6 months though.

We started rice cereal at 3 1/2 months and solids at 4 months. Both our old and new pedis were okay with it b/c he is such a big boy. We have just moved from 1 serving a day at dinner time to both breakfast (or lunch) and dinner.
At first, some days he would eat a lot, and other he would only take a bite or two. It's more about exposure to textures, smells, tastes, and how to eat than it is about getting nutrients. Now, he eats like a pig and eats almost everything we give him!
I started rice cereal abt 4 month... Chase hated it. Tried every day for several days, then moved on to oatmeal, but he especially liked the barley. He was just over 5 months when I started 'real' food. LOVED it.
I agree with Mel, watch her cues... she'll let you know if she wants more. Don't worry about pressure, do what Lucie needs, not every one else
Go with your gut
Don't feel pressured to do anything. Just go with her cues and your gut. FWIW, I have a friend whose almost one year old is just now eating anything other than breast milk. Not by her choice, but his. He just wouldn't eat any baby food and very, very few big people foods. He's reallly small, but her pedi wasn't concerned at all because he was crawling, walking, etc. way ahead of schedule. Every baby is just different.
We waited until after 6 months with vivi and skipped cereal. There is no NEED for it. It's a practice food. We went straight to avocados and other homemade foods. Vivi would not have anything to do with jarred baby food.
Luke got cereal for about a week at around 5.5 months and then we went on to jarred and homemade foods.
Remember that since she's BFed she should have no need for extra iron in her diet until 6 months and there is no need to follow any sort of schedule when introducing solids b/c she's been exposed to everything you have eaten while BFing.
My advice is to follow her lead. If she's diving for you spoon at 5 months then there's no harm in giving her a little taste of this or that and if she has no interest at 6 months then that's ok too!
