Daycares in BR?

Hi, I am due in April and I need some advice on daycares in Baton Rouge.  My grandmother will be able to keep our son for most of the first year but after that we have to find somewhere to bring him.  We live in Denham Sprigns but work in Baton Rouge and most of our family lives in BR too so we would like to have a daycare for him in the South Baton Rouge area.  Anyone have suggestions?

Re: Daycares in BR?

  • Put your name on every list you can find right now.  Our first choice had a two year waiting list and we're still not there.  AND I called the day after I found out I was pregnant.  It's ridiculous.

I usually recommend using a daycare close to home as opposed to close to work.  That way if you are sick or need to get things done on your day off, you can send your LO to daycare without having to drive out of your way.  But that's just me.

Consult the childcare directory on the BR Parents magazine website.  It was uber helpful for us.

  • I agree with Shoe.  Somewhere closer to home would be better, but that is your choice.  I live in Denham Springs, but work at the Kindercare on O'Neal.  I've only been there for 4 weeks and I like the infant rooms there.  Not trying to plug my center, but I worked in both infant rooms and love the teachers.  They are caring and attentive to all the babies needs and are very open with their communication with the parents.  Mother's Choice, from what I have heard, is good also.  Only because Kindercare finds them as their competition.  Overall, the daycares in Denham Springs are a lot of mom/pop places, privately owned.

I have heard a lot of different opinions about the cookie-cutter daycares,  Some are bad, but if you find a right one, it can be good.

I hope you find something.  :)

  • define "south Baton Rouge". like what major roads and places would you want be close to or pass by?
