Re: how often do you dust?

  • It depends on how fast our house gets dusty.

But probably not as often as I should though! Maybe once a month?

  • I'm starting a new chore list.  Every other day I do 1 chore that doesn't get done regularly.  Dusting is on that list, so it will start to get done once a month.

I'm hopeful that I can keep up with this. I'd love all of my house to be cleaner.

  • Each room gets dusted once a week. I try to keep up with it since it gets really dusty fast.

  • I haven't dusted in a million years. oh lord this house is a disaster. panics and tries to think of ways to not have her party here in a couple days. I need a new cleaning  approach too bc what we are currently doing *which is pretty much running around in circles until we die prior to company* is not working.

oh gosh that's the worst! hope you are able to get things into a shape you are comfortable with by party time! can you just shove it all into a spare bedroom?

  • The spare bedroom and office are hoarders-worthy already. Sigh. We had to switch audrey's bed and paint the bathroom these last few days. Everything is in upheaval. Joe took off Monday and part of Tuesday to help and we are so far behind. They are both asleep now but I am exhausted. I had Joe ask his mom to watch Aud for a few hours Friday so I can clean uninterupted. I still have to go to the store for party food and make her cupcakes.
  • Wow Thor good luck. Sounds stressful. Ideally I should dust weekly... Dogs plus old house = dustyyyy... I literally just dusted sunday for the first time in at least 2 months. Gross.

  • I am going to admit that being a SAHM has not been good for my obsessiveness.  Since I am in the house ALL.THE.TIME I clean ALL.THE.TIME.  I've had to give up a lot of it because of my current restritions and it is driving me absolutely CRAZY.  Normally I dust a couple times a week - our furniture is all dark woods and we have two indoor cats... so yeah.  Normally I also vaccuum every day - again, 2 indoor cats plus a toddler and a messy husband plus wood floors - vaccuuming everyday is a must.  I bought a swiffer duster thingy a few weeks ago and I love love love it.  Normally I would just use the swiffer cloths (that you put on the end of the swiffer stick) to dust by hand (and I still do that for flat tops), but the duster thingy is awesome for the ceiling fans and window blinds, high up on the walls, the door frames, the doors themselves, etc.  I will admit that I haven't done the baseboards in probably a year.  That's terrible.  Bleh.

Oohh and I heard on some home improvement show on talk radio recently that if you have a lot of recessed lighting in your home that could be where a lot of the excess dust is coming from - like if they aren't framed well in the attic.  Our kitchen and living room (aside from the ceiling fan) has nothing but recessed lights.  They explained how to remedy the problem - which I don't recall of course - but it was interesting to me to hear this.  Probably a "duh" moment for most people, but yeah - I personally am not home improvement savvy.

ha ha, yes the old spare bedroom trick!  I'm all to familiar with that one.

I dust every one to 2 months...and it's pretty dusty by that time tho, so should dust much more often.

Good luck Thor!  Vibes that you'll have it done in time for the party!

  • You'll get it done, Thor!

I'm a random duster. I have one swiffer duster thing upstairs and one downstairs. If I see something dusty I grab it and quickly dust. So I'd say I dust random things once a weekish.

When we lived in a new construction house I thought we had lots of dust b/c of the sheetrock and what not. Then when we lived in an older house I thought we had lots b/c it was an older house. Now I'm convinced that anyone with pets indoors will have dust, period.

  • Dusting is my absolutely LEAST favorite household chore.  I think I dust once every 3 or 4 months.  Or whenever we have people over (whichever comes first.)  When I was growing up, we dusted once a week, which would probably make it much more manageable.
  • We got a cool duster from target that seems to help the dust not resettle for a while after dusting! That said, I rarely ever dust.
