Portland Park Help?

I'm going to throw MIL a huge birthday party for her 50th, it's not til July 2012, but you all know...I'm a planner!

Anyway, I'm thinking of renting a picnic area or gazebo, at a really pretty public park.  It's end of July so it *should* be nice weather, but would like a covered area just in case it rains or is 115 degrees and we need shade.  Need to be able to have a caterer, and bring in beer/wine.  Will be 50-100 people, and don't have a budget yet, but any modest park rental fee should be fine.

SE area is great, or N/NE is also fine.  Also open to Vancouver ideas if there's something great up there.

Ideas?

Thanks!

Re: Portland Park Help?

  • I know Mt Tabor has a covered area with picnic tables. I don't know of any others. The only downside to the public parks is that you can't book anything until the start of the calendar year so you'd have to wait until Jan 1 2012 and get in line with everybody else that wants to rent space.

What about renting outdoor space at the Hoyt Arboretum?

  • Laurelhurst should hopefully have the pond finished by 2012, but it doesn't have a covered area.  Peninsula Park has really pretty rose gardens, which would be in bloom, and they do have covered areas.

And more expensive, but there is always Oaks Park.  They have a catering department there and there are several covered picnic areas.

  • You should consider Peninsula Park. IMO, it's one of the prettiest parks in Portland. It has one large, covered picnic area and two other areas.

I attended a wedding at Kelly Point Park, right where there Willamette meets the Columbia. It's well suited to a crowd, and the location is unique.

Not sure if it's in your budget, but you could look at renting the house at Blue Lake. Very pretty. We considered it for our wedding. There's also the McLean house in West Linn, which was very affordable a couple of years ago. You could schedule further in advance at those locations.

  • Way late to this but I was just up at Pier park in N portland this weekend and it's HUGE and pretty.  There is a covered pavillion as well as lots of tables under the BIG trees.  there is a play area near the pavillion and a 18 hole frisbee golf course!  may be worth checking out.  There is also an outdoor pool
