TEACHERS please help..more info received.
For you ladies that have offered me advice:
I received her test results which basically say:
In reading/writing/mathematics she is scoring at a grade level of 3.7- 4.2, she is in 5.6 currently. Like WTF? She just didnt learn/retain anything in grade 4 lastyear?
Our meeting is on Tuesday, March 8th.
Are there any particular questions I should be asking, besides what I can do to help her?
Thank you again!
Re: TEACHERS please help..more info received.
No, it was a test to see what grade level she is performing at, it was done because her teacher noticed that her perfermance is not up to standard levels.
It is called:
Report of Achievement Testing, based on age.
and there was one done based on grade.
The learning disability is what the teacher said was a possibility but further testing would have to be done to determine this.
Did you give permission for this testing? Was it a written test or done one-on-one with a teacher?
These scores are probably a good indicator of how your daughter is doing in school, particularly given her recent grades. However, most likely it is not that she did not retain ANYTHING from 4th grade. More likely, she started falling behind and not fully understanding concepts and the gap is starting to show more now.
Again, like I said in my previous post and someone else mentioned as well, I would want to know what accommodations the teachers are provided to try to help your daughter be successful. At least where I have worked, we cannot just say, "this child is not doing well, let's test!" We need to have data that shows that we are trying to help and the child is still not being successful.
If it were me and you find out that there are accommodations in place, I would push for testing to see if she would qualify for LS. If for no other reason, to find out what her strengths and weaknesses are. You do not have to choose to have her in LS if she qualifies, you get the final say. I would want to know the best ways to help support my child.
Hope this helps!
