Terrible registry!

BIL is getting married in May. He just turned 20, she just turned 18 (that's a whole other post itself).  I received an invitation today to her bridal shower. Not only do I work that weekend, but it's 5+ hours away, so I won't be going.

Anyway... I was checking out their gift registries and they're awful! They registered for the same things at JC Penney, Target, and Wal-Mart. Each registry contains shower curtains, comforter sets, blenders, vacuums, and coffee pots.

Between all of the registries, they are registered for one towel, one sauce pan, and no dishes or other pots and pans.

Re: Terrible registry!

  • Bummer! I'd probably end up buying something not off the registry. I normally end up buying people Pampered Chef stuff since I can get good deals on it. Maybe check in with the parents to see what they really will need (even if the couple doesn't realize it). I know we barely put any kitchen things on our registry because we were so well covered with everything but I don't know how common that is for an 18 and 20 year old.

  • Neither of them have ever lived on their own, so all they currently have are the clothes on their backs. Stick out tongue

I'm mailing my gift since I'm out-of-state, so the bridal shower gift will likely be towels and potholders for the kitchen! I remember having dishes shipped to us before our wedding and having them arrive broken, so I want to avoid that.

  • Has anyone talked to them about their registry??? They may just be uneducated about what it takes to live on your own/run a household. And also point out the obvious that they are registered for DUPLICATES.

Maybe also registering at Menard's also? That way they can get a tool box, some curtain rods (for windows), planters, tiki-torches (summer is coming!), etc.

Maybe search for some other registries (use common last names) and email them a few "examples", so they are aware of what other things they COULD put on there.
