Moving

My husband and I are considering moving to the Twin Cities area sometime in late summer or early fall.  I am wondering if you could recommend neighborhoods or suburbs.  We first and foremost want good schools.  We would also like to be within 45 minutes to an hour of Hudson, WI as that is where my parents live.  Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Re: Moving

  • South Saint Paul is a great area to live! I have good neighbors, good friends, and I don't any kiddos yet but I hear the schools are fabulous!
  • Woodbury is close to Hudson and pretty much has everything you could want or need as far as shopping, restaurants, parks, library, etc. I grew up there and liked it a lot.  However, I didn't go to school in Woodbury because I went to private schools, so I am not super knoweldgable about the school district.  There are also some nice areas in Cottage Grove or Inver Grove Heights. I have friends that live out that way and like it. :)
Lots of love and continual explosions of babydust to my BG Besties! XOXOXOXO

  • I guess it somewhat depends on what you want to spend and if there is an area you need to be closer to for jobs.  Mahtomedi has a good school district and you'd be about a half hour from Hudson.  Woodbury is nice too.  Their school district had a good reputation in the past, but I don't know much about it now.

District 196 is supposed to be really good.  They are in the south metro covering parts of Burnsville, Apple Valley and Eagan.  I have a few friends that work in the district and the have liked it.

South St. Paul and Roseville are pretty reasonably priced cities but I can't speak for the schools either as I don't have kids.

  • Eden Prairie seems like the "it place" for families right now.  I have heard great things about the schools.  It would be 45 minutes give or take 15 from Hudson depending on where you live and where you are going.

I moved to Blaine, it would be about the same drive time as well.  I moved into a huge development, which is only partially ok (lots of people in a small space).  It is a pretty neighborhood, and lots of brand spanking new and 5yr or less homes that some people in their mid 20?s can afford.  There are so many young families there that I cannot imagine the schools won?t be kicking butt (since school funds will likely be higher). I have heard fine things about the schools currently, but I have heard better things about Eden Prairie schools.  In my area there are beaches, parks and trails everywhere (honestly I can walk by 4 parks just going for a leisurely stroll).
