Deodorant

Recommend your non-aluminum, non triclosan deodorants please :).  I tried making my own but it gave me a rash and was itchy so I prefer to buy one.  I was using Arm and Hammer Essentials Natural Deodorant but I just found out about triclosan and want to stay away from that.

Re: Deodorant

  • I don't use it daily- but Lush has some dusting powders.  I've tried it in old (tiny, plastic) spice bottles and often think about a puff or throwing in an old sock or stocking to puff around.  I'm excited to see suggestions since this has been a long-standing pondering of mine too.

  • I have heard about Lush deodorants but their shipping cost is more than I am willing to pay (more than the item itself costs) and there is no store near me.

I also looked at gudonyatoo but just read some blogs about their awful customer service and I don't want to support them.

I hope for some good ideas here!

  • I made my own for about 9 mo., but with the onset of winter (and more fabric touching my pits) it would rub off and I'd smell. I tried a slew of in store brands, some etsy sellers, even just plain baking soda. Nothing worked. M sad to say they either rub off easily, or they don't nix the funk. So- this is my one non- green concession. I might try my homemade stuff again sometime, but not for now. Good luck! I really think it's trial and error. Each of us has different body chemistry. I hope you find something!!

Oh, no!  How did I miss that on the ingredients list?!  Crying

This has been the only natural deodorant that has worked for me.  GudonyaToo (on Etsy) has one called "Stinky No More," and I was able to delude myself for a couple months that it worked well for me, but it really didn't.  I've never had any trouble with their customer service (I order products a few times a year), but now I'm curious so I might Google them later.

Tom's and the Crystal were both complete failures for me.

The only other natural method that has ever worked for me was baking soda with a little tea tree oil mixed in, dusted on with a make-up brush.  It made my underarm pores clog, though, so I had to give it up.

I think this is going to have to be one of my green concessions.  Sad  I hope you find something that works for you!

  • LaVanila's The Healthy Deodorant.  Lavender is my favorite scent.

$18 from Sephora.  Pricey, but it works.

  • I've been using Crystal for a while.  So far so good.

Lavilin kept odor away but I always forgot to put it on and then get stinky at inconvenient times. (You only need to apply it every 3 - 5 or so days).

I've tried Tom's and Jason at various times over the last several years and they've never worked.

When you switch, the new deodorant might not work as well for the first week or so while your body clears out the junk from the old stuff.

  • I've tried a few different kinds, and the only kind that remotely worked for me was the Crystal roll-on.  I currently have the lavender and white tea scent, I think?  I realize it's not exactly entirely aluminum-free (has alum), but I figure it's better than my regular Dove deodorant.  Although, I keep a thing of Dove around for days I really think I'm going to need it.  The Crystal deodorant doesn't seem to have the same lasting power for me as regular deodorant.  We'll see how it goes this summer.

I agree, but I had to stop using it. My pits felt like they were on fire whether I recently shaved or not. Even got DH to use it, but it stopped working for him after a while.
  • OK, I am still investigating it but I picked up Degree Naturals Deodorant (roundish container) and it has no triclosan or alum.  Is BHT ok?  I feel like I have heard something about that.  I am going to research it a bit more.  The only scent they had was honeysuckle and tea tree oil but I think they make other scents too.
  • I use this now. It's not natural, and it does contain aluminum. There is no triclosan, no talc, but there are some questionable ingredients and it works. Unfortunately, this is a "green washed" product. Just because it says natural, doesn't mean it is. Bummer, huh? But keep looking!!
  • OK this Degree one has propylene glycol which is bad.  UGG.

Love the LaVanila Lavender as well, but I don't live near a Sephora and I'm not going to pay shipping on top of $18!

I recently tried Showertreatsoap Lavender Cedar scented deoderant from Etsy. I really like it.
