Free Baby Carrier

I don't know much about the Seven Slings baby carriers, but I just got an email from Planning Family with a code for a free carrier- you just go to their website, pick out the sling/size, and enter the code "FAMILY2011" at checkout. You do pay for shipping/tax, which worked out to about $15.00 for me. Worth looking into if you're in the market to try a new sling!

Re: Free Baby Carrier

  • Those look nice! I just might get one! I've been eyeing the Maya because I want something for running around the kitchen and also something for the beach.

I would be careful with this offer and make sure you only pay using a credit card where you are protected if it is fradulent.  This company is connected to Udder Covers where they offer a free nursing cover if you pay shipping - they scam a lot of people's credit cards including mine.  Thankfully I paid for it using a gift card that only had a couple bucks on it, but after checking the account they had tried for months to rip it off for thousands of dollars.

Dang. Too good to be true?

Ditto! I was scammed by the Udder Cover deal and my card got charged for hundreds of dollars. It was right around Eli's due date and the last thing I wanted to be dealing with. Ugh! DH will never let me live it down.

  • Wow- thanks for the heads up! I'll keep a close on my card, but I have ordered through promos via Planning Family before and not had any problems, so hopefully this follow suit, and I would be surprised that they were to promote a company that would make fraudulent charges . I can't believe they continued to try to rip your card off- that's unbelievable!

I'd definitely say it's too good to be true - how are they making money if they're giving away all this free product and just getting shipping??  The nursing cover was super cheap and not worth the hassle.  The udder covers thing was promoted all over the place, and still ended up scamming a lot of people.  They link right to Udder Covers from this Seven Slings site.  Not everyone got scammed, so hopefully you are one of the lucky ones that don't!

  • After your warning and reading some reviews online, I went ahead and cancelled my order, and blocked any additional charges from the company on my card. Damn you, too good to be true offers!

Thanks much for the good warning ladies!

  • Not that I have a ton of time, but I might be able to make a few of these slings for my fellow Nesties.  I made a few for friends and they are super simple to make.  If you bought the fabric & thread, I could probably find some time within a month to whip it up. (Maybe less time, but I know all about setting time expectations at work and I know how busy my weekends can get out of the blue!)

Or, you could make one yourself if you've got a sewing machine. Although I'm a little scared about my online lives colliding here, here's a link to a photo tutorial I made for my Mommy Message Board friends.  (That's where I go to talk about James all the time!)  http://www.justmommies.com/forums/f809-july-2009-playroom/1952594-photo-tutorial-how-to-make-fitted-pouch-sling.html

No need to spend $40 plus shipping for something that is essentially a bunch of straight lines of sewing! And I LOVE my pouch sling- as has James for over a year now.

I don't have a sewing machine but would definitely reimburse you for your time and stuff if you were really serious about this! What kind of fabric?

  • I've ordered both the baby carrier & the nursing cover, I checked my account and so far only the 2 charges have come out for shipping. I paid through paypal so my account number isn't directly linked to their site so I'm hoping not to get scammed, but I will definitely be keeping a close eye on it! Thank you so much for the heads up about the scam, I had no idea!!!

I don't see why I couldn't hook you up! They are really super easy to make. I've made mine with your standard cotton quilting fabrics- you know that giant wall o' fabric at JoAnn's.  I've also made two with medium weight apholstery (sp?) fabric- it's super heavy duty. If you want a reversible one, you need 2 yards of each fabric that is at least 40" wide- preferably a little wider, like 45". Then a spool of all purpose thread will help.  With that you can get 2 slings.  I can make them in two sizes- one a little snugger for newborn, one a little bigger for toddlers or giant milk boobs!

Like I said, sometimes my days and weekends get really busy, and sometimes our sewing machine likes to screw with my brain and mess up its tension which means I need to step away before chucking it out the window. But I wouldn't need any other compensation, other than you patience for when you'd get it!

Here are some combos of fabrics I've used to give an example of things that have worked (as slings and as something I can make!)

    - Little Mister & Orange Calico that I can't find

    - Mod Circles & Green Daisies

    - Brown w/ Blue Leaves & Robin's Egg Blue w/ Brown Lotus

    - One fabric Dino Camo that is very heavy duty

Edited to add photo: James was 9 months in this pic.  Don't mind my friends' goofy face and their preggo and early post-partum bellies!

This. I had no issues with the nursing cover or sling. I haven't had any more charges - I was just warned to only pay with paypal for them.
