Hello all! I previously introduced myself in the Phoenix section of The Bump but was advised to switch here for a more lively crowd.
I am a 31 year old unemployed teacher who has lived in Mesa for 2 years now (originally from TN). I am 12 weeks preggo (1st child) with no family here other than my wonderful husband. Despite his excitement and support he cannot really offer much advice on anything maternity Lol. I will try not to be too needy with my questions but I have many, being new to pregnancy and the area.
I look forward to getting to know you all and I'll pose my first question. My ob delivers at 2 hospitals: Chandler and Mercy Gilbert. They advise Mercy Gilbert should things proceed well but I cannot find any reviews on this hospital. Does anyone have experiences there? Thanks!
Re: 2nd Intro
Welcome!
My MW delivers at both of those hospitals as well and I've heard WAY better things about Mercy Gilbert than Chandler. We'll be delivering at Mercy Gilbert in May (hopefully not sooner). I've heard great things about Mercy Gilbert and I have yet to hear one bad thing about it.
The only thing about Gilbert (I believe) is that they don't have a NICU so if the baby needed to be in one, they'd send him or her to Chandler.
BLOG
I delivered at Mercy Gilbert in November and had a great experience there! The rooms are gigantic and super nice, the nurses were really nice and helpful. The cafeteria food is actually decent (DH had no complaints), the on-demand movies were great to have during labor and the Skype set up in the recovery room was nice to use for OOT family. I really don't have anything bad to say!
I have heard that Chandler isn't that great and I had a bad experience in the ER (I was in for a MC, they put me in a shared room with a newborn), so it was a no-brainer for us to go to Gilbert. Do the free hospital tour, you get to see all of the rooms and ask all of the questions you want.
welcome to the board. I've heard great things about Mercy Gilbert and would pick them over Chandler any day.
Congrats on the little one

omg wtf? that's horrible! although from stories i've heard from there, i'm not too shocked. i'm sorry that happened to you
my read shelf:
You CAN labor in water at Gilbert, they just don't have the water tubs yet. My MW is working on getting one there soon though. You can always get in the shower or bring your own. Just wanted to let you know. I plan to use a tub if it's available to me as well, if not, I'll be in the shower. lol
Great! Maybe by the time it's your turn your MW will have convinced them of the water tubs; but knowing I can at least labor in the reg. tub is a relief. Thanks for the info!
Thanks and no worries. I've read enough to feel much better about Mercy Gilbert and even Chandler as a last resort if LO doesn't have the same plan as I do.
I'm from Jackson....half way between Memphis and Nashville.
