Re: anyone have their gullbladder removed?

  • BMW, didn't this happen to you? I'm pretty sure she was out of work most of January after having surgery to remove hers. GL to your hubby.  Hopefully he isn't a big baby for your sake.

  • I had mine taken out in April 2009... whatcha wanna know?  It wasn't too terrible but it definitely wasn't fun either but then again I am kind of a wuss lol.  I had to stay at the hospital for 2 days because the anthesia (spelling) made me really sick.  The worst part was being pumped with air and the only way to get rid of it was to walk it off and it was really painful to just stand up so walking was the last thing I wanted to do.  My surgery was on a Thursday and I went back to work on Monday and ended up leaving early and then didn't come back till the following Monday so I was out for about 10 days.  As far as after the surgery... I have heard of people having a hard time eating certain things and it hitting their stomach wrong however I haven't noticed any problems personally.  I mean ocassionally it will randomly happen that use to happen when I had my gallbladder.

  • I've heard that everyone reacts differently. I had mine out in June 2009. I went into the hospital at 7:45 on Friday morning and was back home by 4:30 on the same day. I was up and around again my Monday. After dealing with the pain of the gallbladder attacks, the surgery recovery really didn't seem so bad.

  • I pretty much was going to say the same thing as blonde.

For me I knew I was going to have to have the surgery but I wasn't seeing a surgeon until mid January and my body decided it couldnt wait and I ended up getting admitted through the ER.  They kept me over night and almost for a second day b/c even though they went laparscopic they had to make my incision much larger then usual b/c they couldnt get my gallbladder out. I also had an elevated white blood cell count in the ER so they wanted me to get IV antibiotics.

According to my short term disability provider I should have been back to work in 2 weeks. They can kiss my arse! There is no way I could have gone back to work in 2 weeks. I also dont have a desk job. I work 12 hr days that most of the time I am on my feet.  I think if I had a desk job and worked 8 hr shifts maybe I could have gone back at 2 1/2 weeks. I was out for 4 weeks.

Also the gas pain was AWFUL!!!
