Re: Mardi Gras Randoms

  • GVSU, that's funny about the comic sans.  Not too professional, I'd say.

JuliD, I do recall us discussing your BIL & SIL before.  How are they doing these days?  Better, hopefully?

  • It wasn't just the font either. This person has been with their companty for a while and had several postions, rather than list it by titles to show he/she has grown, you had to read through the bottom of the 1st page to see the titles listed. You would't know that they had a high title at first glance.

Meh, they're about the same as before. :-/

  • It's sunny outside and I want to be outside

  • GVSU - that just made me laugh.

I'm hoping I don't make potential interview faux paus.

I'm switching careers from accounting to nursing.  Do entry-level nurses (CNA) wear suits on intervivews? or nice, church type clothes?  What about the resume?  Pretty much all my resume skills are use-less, except for being detail oriented, multi-task, things like that.

I really need to find someone to mentor me on this stuff.

I'm a CNA. I typically wear black dress pants, heels and a dressy button down shirt.

I would find some way to get a little experience...maybe by volunteering? But make sure you do volunteering with a facility AND with someone in their homes. I've noticed having experience, even "non professional", goes a long way. Bonus points if you help with a dementia/Alzheimer's patient :) That's always a big deal.

  • I have no voice, my eyes were pasted shut with goo this morning, and washing the dishes from lunch has exhausted me.  I have a some anger with winter germs and my patheic immune system.  I also have a dr's appointment this afternoon with not-my-own doctor.  Getting to see her when sick is nearly impossible.  Grrr...

And on the flip side... Henry is being kinder to me today, Jim had meetings, so I had the laptop and finished my homework, and we have good health insurance.

PS: Happy International Women's Day, ladies.

    Thanks for the tips!!!

I start the CNA program next month, and it's a 5 week program.  I'm hoping to get a job with one of the hospitals where I live.  They tend to have better benefits - like paying for nursing school!!!

You're welcome :) I really enjoyed my class, but mine was only 4 weeks (some are only 2!!). If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me :)

And I agree about the hospitals...just a warning: it can be hard to get in to a hospital as a CNA sometimes, because a lot of them will only hire a very small amount of them.

I noticed they don't have many openings.  I'm in Vegas = LOTS of hospitals.

My Dr sees patients at one of the larger hospitals in town, and he offered to put in the word for me - I've been his accountant for 5 years, so he knows i'm a hard worker well enough to refer me. I'm still nervous I won't get a decent job.
