Hey girl, I was wondering if I could pick your brain for a little real estate help?? Smile

My mom (and technically my aunt, but she's being absolutely no help whatsoever) is in the process of emptying out my grandparents' house and getting it ready to put on the market.  Is there a website for the general public where you can see what amount houses in the area have sold for, or is that info something that only realtors have access to?  I've checked out what the comps in the neighborhood are listed at but most have been on the market for a long time (several months at the minimum), so what we really need to know is what houses are actually selling for.

If we really have to she'll hire an agent to list with and pay the fees, but currently she has the option of having the attorney who is handling the estate take care of all the paperwork.  Plus, the house isn't worth a whole lot so my mom's trying to get as much out of this sale as she can.

Thanks in advance!

  • It really depends on your market area. In New York, there was no MLS system, so you had to get that through a realtor... until a website called Property Shark came out that basically made all real estate transactions transparent. There may be a site like that in your area, but I wouldn't know what it is. In other areas though, the MLS is accessible if you sign up and pay a fee. As a last resort, you can reach out to a realtor and tell them that you are interested in listing the house and want them to come by and look at it. It's not terribly honest, but they ususally come to those meetings with at least a rough estimate of what they would price it at. You are under no obligation to hire them after the meeting. HTH!

  • Sorry to butt in but I have a question for you too!

How did they do the sing along?  Live musicians?  Played the sing along video?

I would love to see something like down here... just curious how they did it!

They showed the movie, but it had the words to the songs scrolling across the bottom. Before it started, they gave out gift bags to everyone that included props like bubbles, paper crowns, plastic forks (aka dinglehoppers), etc. with instructions on when to use them as well as when to hiss at Ursula, make kissy noises at Ariel and Prince Eric, bark when Max the dog comes on screen, you get the idea. It was TOO FUN!

  • SO CUTE!  I would love to do something like that for a fundraiser of some sort... or maybe just for fun.  I will definitely file that in the "to do someday idea box" in my head.  Thanks!
