Lent starts tomorrow

What is everyone giving up for lent?  Anything good?  I haven't really decided if I am going to or not.

Re: Lent starts tomorrow

  • H is Catholic, and usually gives up something every year - this year I'm going to uh, suggest sweetly that he give up sweets. He keeps saying that he wants to drop about 20 lbs, but he loves his sweets! The timing couldn't be better :-)

For me, though not Catholic, I usually do it with him to show support. I do need to lay off the Coca Cola's...hmmm...the timing couldn't be better for that also!

  • I haven't given anything up since '04 when I gave up shopping (both on eBay, plus I handed all my credit cards over to my mom).  I think this year I'm going to give up road rage, since my in-car verbage has gotten pretty violent lately.  Food is a moot point because I can live without sweets, and even though my weakness is salt snacks I dont eat them much these days because of WW.

I cannot tell a lie though.  I was good this morning and didn't give paczkis a second thought.  Until someone at work decided to be evil and bring a dozen in.  But I was good and didn't eat one.....I ate half of one.  =)

  • I'm thinking about giving up stopping for breakfast in the morning on the way to work.  I can get into a bad habit of doing this and need to stop.  Now is a good time to break the habit.

  • Oh I need to think of something.....
  • Our Methodist church follows lent pretty closely to that of the Catholic church.

This year, I will be giving up sodas. I have given up all but the caffine free root beer, sprite, and caffine free diet coke. I had given up sodas for about two years, but caved into it when the stress of finishing school and planning the wedding got to me. Plus, it will benefit the baby too if I stop drinking sodas...

Another thing I am doing this year is adding something for the 40 days (to make it routine)...get on the treadmill at home every day for at least 30 minutes. Not only will this benefit me (keep my weight down, make it easier to drop weight after baby is here), but it will benefit the baby's health too.

I also am thinking about giving up candy. The last two weeks I have been VERY bad with the candy (i.e., 10-15 pieces of candy within about a 3 hour period at work...the egg shapped peanut butter cups....yeah...that was a very bad day).

There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven. - Ecc. 3:1 <a href="http://www.thenest.com/?utm_source=ticker&utm_medium=HTML&utm_campaign=tickers" title="D
  • I'm giving up sweets after dinner.  I have a horrible habit of having something chocolate and peanut buttery after the meal.  Hopefully I can replace it with fruit and stick to it.

  • I replied to this on the Hot Wifey post, but I will play here, too. Being a Lutheran we don't have to give up anything for Lent, but I usually try to. I'm going to give up fast food entirely! We rarely eat it (maybe once a week), and lately if I stop for Jeff, I haven't gotten anything for myself, so it shouldn't be too hard.

  • I'm Presbyterian & we also adhere to the Lenten Season. I'm going to give up fast food too - like Danie. One year I gave up sweet tea & I nearly went insane! SD gave up soda last year & this year she has decided to give up her weekly treat. Every Friday Papa takes her to Starbucks to get a Frapicino (sp?) if she has kept all of her stars for the week in school. She knows that she doesn't have to participate but each year she wants to & I think it's a good thing.

  • I like doing things that are good for me instead of giving up things that are bad for me, I feel like I respond much better to positive reinforcement :P  This year I am going to start doing exercise every morning, and if I don't make it, then exercise at night.  I've just gotten lazy lately and I would love to get more active again!
