Nestie Travel Agents Come In
DH and I want to take a "babymoon" this summer. The only places I've come up with so far are the Keys and the mountains of NC/TN. I'm just drawing a blank.
Our only requirement is that we want to be able to drive.
Where would you recommend?
And....Go!

Re: Nestie Travel Agents Come In
Why do you want to drive?
Are you looking for more of a relaxing vacation or sightseeing one?
I've heard really good things about Siesta Key. I've never been myself.
My family used to go here during the summer and we adored it.

It's its own little community and you take a ferry to get to the island. They have lots of activities and little stores and we would rent bikes for the week to get around.
Either one. DH is more of a beach person and I am more of a mountain person. We would also consider a big city.
We went to Charleston for our anniversary and loved it! I was thinking about Asheville. I've been but it was so long ago, I don't really remember it.
ITA with all the other suggestions of Charleston, Savannah, Asheville. etc. All great places! think about St. Simons & Hilton Head too!
You can totally do an AI including airfare for the price of gas to drive somewhere, staying in a hotel, and food out everyday. Absolutely.
Madisen taught me that and it's true.
ETA: Just in case you want to branch out in your search.
DH's sister got married in Charleston in September. I LOVED it there! I am still trying to convince DH that we need to move there.
haha. Would the price of an AI be worth it with me not drinking though? I am definitely and AI fan, but I feel like I consider not having to pay for alchol as party of how good of a deal they are.
haha! This is why I was asking...to see if it was budget related or timing-wise with the pregnancy. What's your budget if you don't mind sharing? It would help me give suggestions, both AI and non-AI related.
Totally worth it. I've totally turned a leaf on this one. I can't believe how cheap AIs are (including airfare). I just did a quick search on allinclusiveoutlet.com and just searched part of Mexico and the first one that came up is $644 pp. So $1300 for your entire vacation. I have no idea what your budget is, but it's definitely worth looking into IMO. If you're looking for a beach thing.
ETA: That was literally just the first one that popped out. There are probably better deals.
Ooh now that you mention it, timing would play a factor depending on when we decide to go. I can't fly after the beginning of June. We haven't discussed budget yet, but under $1000 I would say.
How long would you like to be away? How long of a vacation do you want it to be?
We're talking about doing a 4 day weekend somewhere. If we go over a holiday that we get off from work, then we can do 5 days. I'm just trying to save as much PTO as possible for maternity leave, so I don't want to go for too long.
You could do a fun cruise for that timeline and budget too. Especially since you won't be drinking.
Why can't you fly after the beginning of June?
It's after 6 months that you can't fly, isn't it? Or is that cruising I'm thinking of? Oh you know what, it's cruising that you can't do after 6 months. What is flying- 8 months?
Yes, you're thinking of cruising. You should always check with your doctor first, but in general if you're not considered high risk, you should be able to fly up to 35 weeks.
Thanks!
I would vote for the mountains. In the summer, the mountains would be a little cooler than the Keys. I think, for me, that would be a factor for consideration. (I'm cranky when I'm hot....no fun for a relaxing vacation.) And, the beach, not the Keys exactly, is closer than mountains are. So, you could probably do a quick beach trip away at another time quicker than a mountain getaway.
I hope that makes sense. I'm a bit rambly today.
LOL I definitely have more options than I started with.... I think.
Wasn't someone raving about this place recently? Maybe in one of our "if you could go anywhere on vacation right now" polls? No idea how expensive it is.

We stayed there last Summer and I absolutely loved it. It was in walking distance of everything down town, well everything is walking distance in KW, but you know what I mean. The prices were great and the breakfast was good. We stayed in one with a kitchenette, but we never used it. It was a big plus that we could bring the dogs. It was tons of fun!
