HWTM "Real Party" Side Eye

http://www.hostessblog.com/2011/03/lauras-cirque-du-bebe-baby-shower-part-2/

Am I not chic enough to think this is a cool baby shower?  And that 90% of this party has nothing to do babies or circuses or is at all French?  The look is ok, for a birthday party or something, but there's no unifying theme and certainly not the one they claim it has.

Thoughts?

Re: HWTM "Real Party" Side Eye

  • I like it, but probably because I don't like baby showers that look like baby showers. I prefer very modern and sleek and more adult looking than "baby".
  • I prefer baby showers that celebrate the mom, I'm not a fan of pastels and babyfeet everywhere.  I love this baby shower.

This is exactly how I feel...technically the shower is for the mom, the baby isn't here yet so why does everything have to be so juvenile in decor?

  • When I saw this earlier, I thought that it had a great look, b/c like PP I'm not a fan of pink and blue showers.

But what I think OP might be referring to is that there is NOTHING circus or french about it.   I thought the same thing!

While this particular look is NMS, I like how it's different.  It's certainly funky, eclectic and cool.

I think the mom-to-be's aunts get an A+ for effort. She's a party planner whose mom passed away during her fisrt trimester, so her aunts stepped in to throw her a great shower.

  • I'm not looking for rubber duckies and Peter Rabbit but zebra print is little tacky for a shower.  It seems forced--like the intent was not to set up to put on a beautiful shower but to put out a bunch of gaudy stuff.  Mainly, think the decor has little to do with "Cirque du Bebe"; that's my biggest gripe.
  • Having been to multiple Cirque de Soleli shows in Las Vegas and in the touring tents, I actually think (if that's what they were going for) that they were in the right vein. Cirque de Soleli is all about the avant guarde, over the top, glamazon style, and I think this translated it well.

That being said, I don't love the execution, but that's probably because it's just NMS. I like the idea of the orange and blue and black "chic" color theme, and I love some of the graphic work they did, but tons of animal prints and I do not mesh.

I'm with you on the animal print!  But overall I think it's a great idea!!!
