Amber teething necklaces?

Hi.  Hello.  I'm a visitor in these here parts.

So, my kid is teething. A friend suggested an amber teething necklace.  I'm having a hard time finding info on google that isn't from someone trying to sell me one.  This seems like an eco-friendly kind of thing, do any of you have any experience with this?  I'd appreciate any feedback I can get.

Thank you kindly. *tips hat*

Re: Amber teething necklaces?

  • If you haven't already, you might want to check the Eco-Friendly Family board over on The Bump.  That's where I first heard about them; the only info I know is that there are cute ones on Etsy, it shouldn't be long enough that the baby can get it into his/her mouth, and to look for one with knots between each bead so if it breaks, baby doesn't now have access to a whole pile of choking hazards.

(No personal experience with them yet...just too many years of baby fever.  Stick out tongue)

  • I got one through Inspired by Finn, it was nice!  I heard the lighter the amber the better?  I could be wrong.  It is hard to tell if it worked, but it was a nice product.
  • Everything i've read says it's compounds released into the skin when the amber is worn, but that they should not be used for active teething (i.e., keep them out of baby's mouth).  Please verify that they are intended/safe before having your child teeth on them.

  • DS wears his every day. He does seem to have crankier times while teething and not wearing his necklace. I'd say it works!
  • I felt like it worked for our son. I have no idea if it actually did or if it was just placebo effect. Either way, they were cheap enough, that I didn't mind shelling out a bit of money for the peace of mind it brought, even if it was all in my head.
