Update on the Cat

She seems to be fine. The vet thinks it's allergy related, but it's hard to tell what they're really allergic. She suggested switching to a metal bowl (which we went to get) and changing her food/treats to fish based (meaning not chicken, beef, etc.). It's really hard to find treats that are that (it may say Salmon on the packet, but it's really chicken with salmon flavoring...who knew!).

So anyway, I have to watch her for two weeks and if it's not better get some ointment.

The cool part at the vet was that she kind of squeezed the cat's lip and pushed a "slide" up against it to get some cells and then showed me what it looked like in the microscope. I have no idea what I was looking at, but it was interesting. I've never had a vet give such a deep explanation.

Re: Update on the Cat

  • Well I'm glad she seems to be okay. My brother's dog would get ear infections all the time and it took them forever to figure out what she was allergic to specifically. Hope the new food/treats work for your cat!

  • I was going to suggest Blue Buffalo or Halo cat food and their salmon recipe but even they have chicken fat in them!! Good luck finding one that doesn't have chicken. I wonder why she thinks its a chicken allergy?

  • I think she thinks it's just allergy in general and said the most common are the allergy to plastic or ceramic bowls, and then chicken, beef or wheat. I guess there's no way to tell what she's actually allergic too unless I can introduce one thing back at a time and see if her lip swells.
