New Baby Gift - moms, any ideas?
I have a friend who just had a baby last week. We live across the country and I haven't seen her in a few years, but I'd like to send her a card and small gift to acknowledge and celebrate her new daughter. Maybe $30 or so. Either something for her, the baby, or all 3 of the fam. Any suggestions?

What about a personalized story book?
Something like this:

I'm normally a practical kind of gal, but that storybook is cute.
Some of my standby ideas- gc's to a local restaurant that delivers, send some food from a local place, a baby book and blanket (very easy to send), see if she has a registry, or a package of diapers from amazon.
It might be easy to just mail a GC in a card.
I'm not a mom, but 1 of my close & friendly co-workers just had a baby a couple weeks ago. She mentioned one day at work that at her shower, she didn't get many "basic" items, like diapers or bath things. I got her a GC to Walmart & she loved it. Especially that there might be something she didn't think or know of beforehand when she made her registry.
$30 check designated for baby's college savings. It's never too early!

My read shelf:

The most usefull things I got was a baby book about sleeping: http://www.amazon.com/Healthy-Sleep-Habits-Happy-Child/dp/0449004023
and this sound machine: http://www.amazon.com/Homedics-SS-3000-Soundspa-Lullaby-White/dp/B000QTSW64/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1300318341&sr=1-1
These are going to be my "go to" gifts from now on. We use the sound machine every day and the book is awesome.
