Re: Anyone else have more HB/ NB related questions
Where did you actually birth Lucy (sorry if you've posted bf)? Did the MW set up a sterile area somewhere in your house or how does that work?? Was it messy or does she lay something out so she can just fold it up & throw it away?
Lucy was born in our Living room, We put tarps down over the carpet and everything was new/sterilized.
We could have given birth anywhere we chose, the living room was the biggest which was why I chose there.
It wasn't very messy, but yes everything plastic was thrown away. We used old towels/wash cloths as well to clean her up etc.
Those were all washed with hydrogen peroxide which cleans sterilizes everything and gets blood out of everything.
I don't think a single thing got "ruined".
They used hibiclens and hydrogen peroxide on anything that blood got on in the house but mostly the floor was covered so there wasn't much of that.
Feel free to ask more questions. I'm open.
Very interesting! Was it just you, DH & MW at your house?? Did you have the option to birth her in the tub?
Yup, me, DH, and MW and MW assistant.
I labored in the tub but near the end her HR went down a few beats (which is normal and happens in many births) so my MW asked me to get out of the tub. So she could monitor her more easily.
That is the way we will plan on doing it next time.
Laboring in the tub and giving birth on land. I think laboring in the tub was why I didn't tear.
I've had a friend have 2 water births though with our MW
Thanks for opening up. I'm a nurse & work in a hosp, so I guess that's some of why I always just figured I'd birth at a hosp., but it's nice to hear the other side of things. Plus, kudos to you for being able to do it & be med free, but I'm just not sure that I could. I'd be afraid I'd get to the point where I'd think I needed something, if I were home, then it'd be too late. I guess I just need the comfort of knowing it's avail. if I do need it.
no problem, I don't have any problem being open about it, I think it is good for people to hear about it.
Once you get to the point where you think you need something you are almost at the point where it gets better. Transition is what is the "worst" but pushing feels SO GOOD.
Honestly I know I have a high pain tolerance but it didn't get above a 8.5 out of 10 on my scale. I just went into the zone and really it wasn't bad at all.
We just read the brandley books and Natural childbirth the bradley way and practiced with that. I found it very helpful and definitely helped me through labor.
I think if you realize that breathing and being relax takes away a LOT of your pain then it really helps
being in water makes you "weightless" or essentially it takes away alot of your weight of your pregnancy which decreases your pain.
The water also relaxes you some, I didn't give birth in water but I did labor in water and it did help!
