How often do you wash diapers?
My DH's latest concern is that he doesn't think our septic would like washing a load of diapers every day. I don't think it's an every day event. But he's also convinced a kid goes through well over 2 dozen diapers a day. So, I've attached a poll to gather more info for my baby battle.
Secondly, how many diapers do you think your LO goes through in a day? I think he is blowing the number way out of proportion.

Re: How often do you wash diapers?
Since Abe wears sposies at school he only goes through about 3-4 a day. 8-10 on weekends.
I'm curious about the septic tank fact...
For your defense. Our friends who are very Earthy Crunchy were the ones that initially began us on our CD journey years ago. They ended up quitting cloth after a year. He couldn't handle the poops anymore and spent a good amount of time trying to talk MH out of the cloth. (MH gets periods of CD frustration - mostly due to our diaper sprayer, but that is a different conversation and not one Alan should have to hear until he just experiences it).
His big argument was that their water bill was huge because of washing CD's. I can tell you 100% our water bill hasn't gone up barely at all from the increased washing of CD or the extra clothes of a kid.
I'm not sure how it affects the septic though? I'm curious. We are on town sewer now but will be having a septic in our next house.
I change Caroline often since we're home all day. I have 25 diapers and I do laundry every other day, but I still have a few leftover to last me while laundry is being done. Granted, we have 4 bedroom septic and it's just us two , but DH wasn't the least concerned with the septic. Believe me, if there was reason for concern, he'd have one! DH actually loves cloths b/c it's better for her bum and cheaper
I do a load of her regular laundry once a week also, just FYI.
Tell your DH to quit making excuses :P
DD pees a lot so I still change her every 2-3 hours during the day, but she STTN in one cloth diaper (it's just pretty bulky overnight!). So it's about 7 diapers a day. We have two dozen diapers and that is enough for washing every two days and allowing time to line-dry the covers.
During the newborn stage we went through about 12 diapers a day.
However, DH and I have been having PB poo aversion lately, so we sometimes put her in sposies when we think she might poop. And I put her in sposies when we are out and about (because I don't like how much room cloth take up in the diaper bag - lame, I know, but my bag was hurting my shoulder :P). So, sometimes we only use a few CDs in a day and I'll go 3 days between washings. But I never go more than that because things get stinky.
And I agree with Maeghan - that is such a lame excuse he is making up! LOL.
hahaha 36/ day. Thats more than one every hour! Maybe that's why he thinks new moms don't sleep :-)
I agree with others, except I am more like diaper laundry every 3-4 days. We have 26 in the rotation, and I usually do them Sundays and Thursday (just the pattern I've noticed). We diaper spray out the dirties and I use disposible wipes when it's messy (I gave up on trying to spray out the wipes... gross), and use cloth wipes when he's wet.
Good luck with the negotiations
We go through 5ish diapers a day per kid? and I haven't noticed a change in our water..
MIL has a well and leach field and when we were staying with her we just had to limit the number of loads we did a day, so like if we did diapers, that would be the only laundry we did that day and then the next day I would do a couple loads, next day she would do a couple... just not putting too much stress on the system...
I'm still cooking my baby, but I've heard the average newborn diaper use is 12/day. The highest estimate I've come across is 15. And, it goes down from that number as baby gets a little older, as you can tell from the responses from the experienced mommas.
We have to pay per trash bag where we are, so I'm hoping to use that mathematical equation to convince my Math teacher DH to get on board with CD-ing. We have a trash compactor, but disposables for us ends up meaning more compactor bags AND more city trash bags to throw them away in...
We've also both been told stories that don't present CDing in a positive light; the funniest reaction I've had recently was "God bless you, good luck" um, what?? I'm hoping for a positive experience with him next weekend at the Diaper Lab's workshop.
My Wedding Bio! Not updated in a LONG time!
I finally got to the root of his estimate. His one friend from HS who has a kid says that they go through 21-24 disposables per day. How he then increased it to 30 is beyond me, but my guess is thinking about them as a newborn. Who knows.
But WTH his friend's girl is going through 21-24 a day is beyond me.
