Has anyone been to Bora Bora or Fiji?
Can you recommend a website or travel agent?
Thanks
Re: Has anyone been to Bora Bora or Fiji?
Yup we've been to Fiji! We took a two week HM there and it was amazing. Much lower prices than the French Polyensia, a lot more to do, and a lot less crowded. We used Lisa Hoppe Travel out of Milwaukee and were happy with her but she basically just books everything with Rosie's Holidays in Fiji so you might be able to get a better deal directly through them. Also Costco of all places has some good deals to there (a friend of mine just booked a vacation) but the jury is out on how that will turn out.
No matter who you go with try to have them book through Rosie's they made our trip run smoothly getting us from point A to B (there are a lot of boats, cars, buses, and plane rides you need to take to get around) even when there were delays. Understand traveling still takes a while since everyone is on "Fiji Time."
We stayed on all three major island groups. Where were you thinking of going? How long are you going to be there and what are you looking for in a resort?
I wish my bio still worked with all the pictures and info.... I do have a ton of pictures uploaded to my Flickr site though:

As you can probably tell we did a lot of trips/hikes/adventures we never would have been able to afford all of that in the FP!
HI!
Thanks for the reply. I am not sure where to go. I was looking at where I can save the most money and what is cheaper. I will definitly call Rosies and cut out the middle man. I can't wait to look at your pictures. I would like to go for a solid week or so and Do they offer all inclusive? I am pretty open minded when it comes to resorts. Did you like where you stayed?
Well it really depends on what you're looking for:
The Yasawas - Cheap, rustic, lots of activities, young HS/college aged kids stay here so most resorts have a barracks in addition to individual bures. Very down to earth and friendly...you feel like you are staying with family because they all learn your name.
The Main Island - The farther you get away from the main island the better it's a bit of a dump. Avoid the Mamanucas or any other island right off the main island they don't have good rainforests and are over fished. We knew this but decided to stay on the Coral Coast (south side which is slightly better than Nadi) so that we could do whitewater rafting, a helicopter tour, and horseback riding. Those activities were fun but we wouldn't do it again.
The Taveuni Area - Unbelievably gorgeous but also expensive. Best diving, best rainforests & waterfalls, and unique black sand in some areas. Most Americans stay here...typically HMs. The two most popular resorts are Matangi (we stayed here) and Qamea. Both are excellent and have all inclusive packages. Some of the very wealthy people (a London couple was bragging about how cheap Rodeo drive is for example) who stay here are complete brats and the staff is nice but a bit more callous (compared to Fiji as a whole which is very friendly) because of it. I seriously don't know how they put up with them I know I couldn't! I know it seems strange to be talking about the other guests but we were on a tiny private island with them (13 bures) so we had all our meals and activities with them. They were always trying to one up each other and were very, very insulting to DH & I (the only middle class people on the island at the time).
Originally we were only going to stay one week at Matangi but the plane tickets were the most expensive part so we decided to stay 3 nights in the Yasawas and 4 nights on the main island too...which was less than half the cost of one week at Matangi. It was too much traveling though.
Let me know where you'd like to stay and I can go into a lot more detail.
My friend Sarah Timmers is a travel agent at Fox World Travel and I remember she had gone to Fiji and toured a ton of hotels. After seeing her photos I added the destination to my bucket list! I'm sure you could call her through the number on their web site. http://www.gofox.com.
I'm jealous!
Went to Fiji for honeymoon - it was amazing!! We stayed on the Coral Coast (Mango Bay) it wasn't inclusive but we didn't want to stay at a "resort" that made us feel like we were at a hotel in Hawaii. We wanted to stay in a bure on the beach and that is what we got!!! Definitely more of a relaxed/party atmosphere. INCREDIBLY FRIENDLY!!! Loved everyone there - met great people traveling around the world! Bure was clean and simple and had the most amazing outdoor shower out the back! The fresh fish every night was incredible.
we booked everything ourselves through Air Fiji and and just winged the traveling once there - it takes about an hour or so via car/bus from Nadi.
We met people in LAX before our flight that did an all inclusive on Turtle Island. Once they landed in Nadi they had to take another puddle jumper to the remote island organized by the resort they stayed at. We opted not to do the remote island cause a friend of ours from Fiji pointed out, while great for a day or so once your there you're sort of stuck there and there is no where else to go/explore. More to do on the mainland. "surf" the sand dunes, we went ziplining through a rainforest, scuba diving/snorkeling, kayaking, our 'resort' even had daily excursions and activties... we made jewerly from coconut shells, took a boat trip out to a local island and the school kids sang songs for us, etc.
