My DH and I live in Houston and if you know anything about our weather the summers can be horribly hot. Does anyone know what types of flowers can live through our heat and then cold temps we get in winter? I want to plant some flowers but I want them to last and come back (that's called annuials?). Does anyone have suggestions? My yard looks so boring and it needs some color! Thanks!
Re: What will survive here?
Annuals are flowers that live for one season. Perennials are plants that go dormant and come back the following year.
Having said that- because of your warm climate, a lot of plants that are considered annuals in cold places are actually perennial (or evergreen) in Houston (such as Lantana).
Go to your local full service nursery, ask for help, tell them what you're looking for, and happy planting. They will have so much more than could be listed here.
