electric car?

does anyone here drive an electric car? If so, what do you think about it?

Re: electric car?

  • I do not drive an electric car, simply because around here it's not practical. Most of them don't get enough of a charge for me to go from one side of the city to the other (something I unfortunately have to do often), let alone that far and back. I would get a hybrid car though if I could afford it. :) I'd like to hear what others have to say about them though, everything i've seen about them shows me that I wouldn't be able to really get by with an electric car.

  • I'm all for electric cars, but not until we have the renewable electricity to support them.  If you buy electric now, you really should research what type of fossil fuel is used to generate the electricity for your home.  Here in the northeast, our electricity comes from coal.  Coal creates much, much more greenhouse gases than gasoline, and burns much dirtier also.  Here in VA our electricity also comes from mountaintop strip mining, which has ruined dozens of communities in West VA due to water pollution and heavy metal poisoning, not to mention the stripping off of the top of a mountain!

Electric cars may be the "hot thing" right now, but they're not green if they run on coal-powered electricity.

  • hummm, in California only 20% of our energy comes from burning coal.  Good point though
